Quigley00 Thanks for the tips. I actually feel pretty stupid... After getting frustrated in the low light at dusk and already exhausted from a long day, I tried again after work this evening and got the stubborn crimps to release and later reattach, so theyre installed and the hitch harness intact.

Is it the one on the right side that you can't get on? That side has wires that are quite a bit shorter. Depending on where U-Haul tied the wires into, you should be able to simply unclip the light assembly, fit the guard, and reconnect. If U-Haul tied the wires in AFTER the connection, you might need to cut and rewire. Can you see the clip? You might be able to reach your arm up inside the body from the bottom abf disconnect it. I will try to find a video to explain.

I bought my 2000 TJ in March and a PO had installed a U-Haul tow hitch. I went to install my Smittybilt tail light guards last night and got the first one on in just a few minutes. When I pulled the second light off I found that I can't pull the wiring completely out to run through the hole in the light guard because the wiring for the hitch is spliced in with a crimp-style connectors. It also is connected to the body with a ground wire that doesn't seem to have a way to detach without simply clipping the wire.
