It is a looks thing. I don't dislike the look of a jeep with the doors off but I really like the look of the tube doors.

I also would like to have the tube door act as an arm rest but I didn't think about how the bar might get a little warm .

Also I'd like to have a second set of mirrors and leave both sets on the doors (the tube doors and the full doors) and just swap the doors in/out.
I got tube doors for all the same reasons. The ones I got came with padded covers for the top tube, so doesn't burn the arms as a armrest. Plus, some passengers just don't feel safe with nothing there.
Another option... I met a guy at a 7-11 who had gotten an old set of the soft lower doors (Besttop maybe?) from eBay and carefully removed all the canvas. Painted the steel rod frame flat black. Looked really good, plus had the plate with the paddle handle. Just another idea for ya.
Happy Jeeping.

I found a set of used Bestop Element Tube doors. They came with the storage bags, metal skins, and soft uppers. They were a great deal compared to what they want for all this stuff new.

The latches are flimsy and rattle. The uppers peel away from the door surrounds at high speeds. They work for trail doors, but that's about it.
The only thing I didn't like was the latches, but with some creative placement of some 1/2" thick rubber, they close solid and do not rattle.

Try some, they give you and passengers a place to rest your arm, you can lean out over them to watch obstacles without feeling your falling out, if kids are riding with you it keeps them inside, all without actually having a door on.
And looks...I get more comments and thumbs up for my doors than anything!

Zack93 Many Cherokee owners have made their own out of emt or s10 tire carriers, I'm sure you could rig something up for super cheap

JRoweMDN I am working on the same type of decision. I already have full steel doors and I have only taken them off once and did not really like the feeling. I would have both if money were no object. To be fair I have picked up what I know from a few test rides and some old CJ ownership. Price is pretty much a wash when I have looked at used half doors vs new trail doors, but new color matched half doors vs new trail doors the trail doors are much cheaper.

So here is my pro vs cons list for tube doors.

Tube door - Pros -

I like the look of the tube doors better than half steel doors.
I like something to rest my arm.
I hate the upper soft windows on any type of door they flap and are almost noiser than the wind.
A tube door with a mesh cover would still breathe well, but would cut down on debris and wind. (assuming it would be similar to the wind reduction of the Spiderweb Shade)
Tube doors add a more secure feeling.
Many tube doors have some storage options or you could create your own.

Cons
No windows to roll or zip up
Open tube doors will not keep you dry or debris out of the jeep.
Wind would be just as strong at highway speed as no door. (this may be a plus for some)
Some will not mount stock Jeep mirrors

How expensive would it be to get a set of tube doors into Australia anyways? Just thinking about it makes me want to take off the doors and leave it. I love running with no doors cause I like the open feeling of a motorcycle with 4 wheels. If theres doors, even tube ones, then I feel closed up in the Jeep. They just were not my thing. Doors are one of those areas where I find that people always want what they dont have, then when you get what you want it usually ends up not being as great as you thought it would be. I have tried them all except half steel doors and have to say, if I need doors then I'm glad I have full steel ones, otherwise its no doors at all.

krisak I took my doors off a month or so ago, and left 'em off. The biggest problem I have is getting nailed in the leg by a rock due to construction zones and idiots losing cargo (I started wearing a hat after experiencing this in a convertible).

Tube doors won't protect you from that.

The biggest thing I like about no doors is the added air flow when I'm sitting at a stoplight or at low speeds offroad - helps keep me cool in the summer heat since I don't use the AC.

I would think that tube doors with a mesh shell would protect you from random debris and allow for good air flow.

Jeep_guy3 Olympic 4x4 sells a set for $199. I probably never would have bought them, but they came with my jeep and I usually have them on when the doors are off and I enjoy them.

BamaRolln I like the Bestop High Rock Element tube door. They are on my short list.

Worth buying is up to you I guess. I can't see them serving any purpose other than looks ( that's questionable on good or bad ) and making your wallet a little lighter.

Love my tube doors.

I bought the Bestop High Rock Element tube doors and I love 'em. They look great and I get plenty of compliments on them. I was doorless, but hated not having side mirrors. Started to look into mirror relocation brackets and didn't like the look/style of them, so I bought the doors. Best add-on to my Jeep so far. Here is a picture.

JPi1 Bestop element doors, $499 for the set of four, plus powdercoating
I've had them a few years, and run them from may thru October.
