Craven Moorehead I may meet you out there Sunday. I am waiting on my new track bars. I can't wheel hard my axles aren't lined up well yet.

ccmbch I'm headed out to the lake (Kirby) this weekend if anyone wants to meet up.

zephoria hi ya, i guess this is my premier post. i live in abilene and will be buying my first jeep tomorrow (if my boss actually sent my check today like he said he would). my wife's parents bought her first jeep 2 years ago (its a pretty long story how that came about... i wont bore you with it).

tx98formula, i am very interested in joining a jeep group. i hope others are still interested.

craven, i am really tempted to write a letter to the editor and maybe even present a news piece to a friend of mine who works at one of the local news stations on that very subject. i remember when i was a kid riding around in my uncles cj and EVERY jeep driver on the road waved at us. when my wife got her jk i was so excited to wave at the other people who get it, and then i was hugely disappointed. even the sports bike guys wave at the harley guys around here... and the "friendly jeepers" wont even look in your direction!!! i also believe that waving shouldnt be restricted to wrangler and cj drivers, even the child-like libertys out there bare the jeep emblem, we should wave at them too.

i am now off my soap box...

We have another thread set up on jk-forum for meetings also, I'm sure you could get some people from over there to go, some came out this past weekend. I'm gonna be out for a couple weeks, I'm laid up in Hendricks right now, just had surgery yesterday.

ccmbch I couldn't make it out this past weekend but would like to meet up. I go out to Kirby often. As far as a Jeep club, that would be great. Count me in.
11-10-2012 11:32 PM
Craven Moorehead You already know I am all about this! Lets get a club going! Oh and by the way, if you see another jeep...wave damnit! We are a friendly group. I am just north of Tye Texas and ill roll with anyone. Just let me know and we need to make this club happen! It's all about word of mouth. I get stopped all the time with people asking about my jeep and their jeep.

Tx98Formula Not sure if anyone is going to read this or not since I didn't get any replies on the last post. But anyways a few of us are going to meet up at Lake Kirby around 4pm this Saturday (the 10th of Nov). If you have a Jeep come on out, I"ll post up a little later exactly where at the lake we are going to meet.

Tx98Formula There are a couple of us over on the JK forum that are thinking about starting up a Jeep specific club here in Abilene (unless there is already one that we are unaware of). We're trying to get as people as we can together to meet up sometime in the next few weeks, not sure of a date, time, or place just yet since we only have about 2-3 people so far that said they would be in. So anyways if anyone is interested post up and let us know!

Chris M I'm a little late on getting into this, but my wife and I were in Abilene last week and I thought about heading out to Kirby to see what was going on, if anything. But it was "late" and I didn't feel like getting stuck in the dark with nobody to call.

Funny thing, it was my first time back in Abilene for more than a couple of hours since I moved away 12 years ago...and I really missed being there. If I could get comparable pay to what I make here, it might be worth moving back for.

ccmbch I was out at Kirby yesterday. It can be fun depending on where u go and what u like to do. I've been looking for other people to go with also.

I used to right sport bikes out that way, you can't get right up on them cause they are on private property but you can get pretty close.

LarkinT I also got to Abilene recently....ish , been here for about a year now and still haven't been able to make it out to any of the lakes. sooner or later I'll make it out there, just need someone to go with (just in case) I heard that red clay can get kind of tricky.

Growing up, we used to go out to Kirby and wheel. It was great because it was in sort of a bowl, so you were pretty hard to see from the road. I'm not sure what it's like today though as I haven't been to Abilene in 8 or 9 years.

If you go out there, be careful for trees and stumps. Some friends of mine went through some tires (and some seriously pissed parents) wheeling out there.

bjrodriguez Pretty much all I know of around here are a couple of lakes (Kirby and phantom) that are fun to mud around. I know there's a trail just outside of dfw thats only about 2 hours away.

Chris M Our fighters were parked under the overhangs with the Navy and DoD cops watching them. The alert pilots and ground crew had several trailers just behind the blast shields and enjoyed themselves immensely. They had some good cookouts while we would stand around and watch them. But we got to know some of the pilots pretty good and they'd invite us over for food. So our supervisor would run through each post and allow us to head over to them to get some grub. Good bunch of people.

Tank19860430 Yessir... Really? From new mexico? That is kinda weird, my supervisor was on alert out there with the jet, I didn't know they weren't ours though... Smart move on the gov't, haha...
05-01-2012 03:26 PM
Chris M I assume you are with the 457th FW?

When I was mobilized, for some reason they had a unit out of New Mexico bring their fighters here. I thought that odd because we had a squadron of F16s and Navy/USMC F18s on the base. How's that for using tax payer dollars?
05-01-2012 11:44 AM
Tank19860430 Sweet man, that's where I crew jets. I remember hearing about the alert jets, good shit man..

My reserve station was NAS Ft Worth JRB, 2000-2008.

Right after 9/11, half my unit was called up and a month later the other half. I volunteered for the first call up and spent a few months guarding alert F16s in FW. When the other half of my unit was called up, they were sent to Dyess to augment the forces in place there. One of our SNCOs came to me and asked if I wanted to go to Dyess (I had moved away from Abilene where I had grown up and left after graduating college only a few months before). I told him not just no, but hell no. He laughed and said he knew that's what I'd say.
