Odhinn Thanks for all the advice everyone. Bad news though I went back to finalize the deal yesterday and it was sold out from under me. Ah well I was looking when I found this one so no big deal. I will just keep looking. On the 350 I origionally built that engine for a 69 chev half ton but decided not to get the truck I was looking at. I Really wanted a YJ or a CJ to stretch for rock crawling and am not sure which would be the best for it. but we shall see what happens, murphies law seem to be ruleing my life these last few months.

agriesemer alot of the old cj's around here are only rusted at the back of the frame from where the leafs bolt and back to the bumper I dont know where you live but salt and winter around here is hard on them.

check it out and go for it the worst that could happen is you have to pull it back out. plus it would give you a good winter project you might upgrade your axles and ujoints though.

1BLKJP I believe most CJ's were notorious for having C channel frame up past the motor mounts. However you might just stick your head under there and check if it's boxed all the way back. However for as short of a wheelbase that a CJ-5 is there's no way in hell I'd stick that bad ass 350 in it unless the wheelbase stretched and the footprint wider.

Odhinn looks like only surface rust that I can see. It was a hunting jeep so the body is trashed but thats easy to fix. I still need to check the driveline and axles, 700 sounded a bit fishy to me so I'm not going to jump to far, to fast. Putting together a price list first on the total cost of the rebuilt.

amerijeep The onlt thing I would want to know is how bad is the rust? If there isn't much rust, then it sounds like a fun project.

CJ-5 question

Hi all you CJer's, Found a CJ-5 for 700 dollars and was thinking of getting it and building it up. I had a CJ-7 a long time ago and it had a weak frame under it. I have a 350 I built about 5 years ago was dinoed at 450 HP. Did the CJ-5's have a strong frame or, if I do this, should I go with a Tube frame.

Thanks for the help
