Well believe it or not I pulled at least 6000 pounds today, I have a16X6' car hauler that has six foot high chain link fence panels enclosing it, I had three years of garbage stacked in it to the top, it sat out in the open and in the elements including lots of rain. I totally was not looking forward to hauling that trailer to the dump aobut seven miles away. I was warned NOT to tow it with a two door Jeep so I tried to find a truck that could haul it but to no avail.
Finally I broke down today and just hooked it up to at least see if it could pull it out of it's area with the Jeep....I was very impressed. The Jeep (X model) just yanked the whole trailer out of the area next to my workshop and up a hill to the front of my house, and in 2 wheel drive too!
So I made the decision to just go for it, I tarped the trailer and did a little work on the electrical plug and hit the road. It did great down the 3/4 mile dirt road drive to the main road, I however did not want to push it and so I just kept the speed down to 35 MPH, that Jeep didn't groan, grind or squeek, it didn't even struggle at all, No burning smells, or rubbing sounds, I was just really impressed. before I left I even checked out the suspension (which is stock height) and it was at least two inches from the bump stop, ya the back of the Jeep was a little low from the tongue weight but it was manageable.
It turns out acording the the reciept at the dump that the total weight of garbage on the trailer was 4380 pounds! and the trailer weighs 1600 pounds on top of that! So basically I was towing close to 6000 pounds with that little Jeep, I could have gone at a faster speed but I was happy with how fast I was going and I really had no reason to push it.
On the way back home with just the trailer (which weighs around 1600 pounds) I got it up to 60 MPH with ease.
I used to have a Chevy avalanche which was rated around close to a 3/4 ton vehicle and with the same trailer on it, I always knew that dang trailer was back there, it would really jerk that truck around, I had the electric brakes functional on it when I had it on the Avalanche but that truck still struggled. I have towed things with Jeeps before and they actually were rather heavy, full or empty, this trailer was very easy on the Jeep, I barely even noticed it on the back of my Jeep with all that weight loaded on it. Now I dont suggest you put that much weight on your Jeep, Im just saying it can handle it with ease, I proved that today, however I wont ever put that much weight on that Jeep again, it's just a good feeling knowing that it can handle it in a pinch. I feel however I could put around 2000 pounds on that trailer and it will handle it just fine.

I pull a 5x10 utility often, +/-1000lbs empty. Last week I pulled it with a Kawasaki 2510 Mule (1500lbs) up a mountain, literally. Had to drive it one gear beneath normal everywhere, but it handled it just fine. In full disclosure, I made my brother pull it back down (with his 2004 Crewcab Tundra).
I did pull a uhaul double axle trailer, the longer guys, and it tried to get squirrly on the highway on a long downhill. The length of the trailer let it start "the wobbles" as it tried to pass my poor Jeep, but that was at 60-65 mph and on a long downhill grade. A shorter trailer or one with brakes would have been easier, but that joker tried to flip me. Emphasis on tried. =)
Be very careful towing anything that exceeds the wheelbase of your tow rig.

Trailer Towing with 2 Dr Sport
I have a 2013 Wrangler Sport with a standard 6 speed transmission and pulled a 5 x 8 enclosed trailer on vacation. U-haul doesn't rent if your Jeep has a soft top. The dealer told me it was because there is less protection in event of a roll over. Pulling a trailer does not effect the soft top in any way. The trailer weighed 1000 lbs and was loaded with about 500 lbs of luggage, camping gear and bikes. It pulled great in rain, wind, hills, and open highway. The only issue was when pulling a large hill I had to downshift to a lower gear to maintain speed but that is normal. The trailer is labeled 55 mph but with the current traffic speed I drove 70 mph on open highway just to keep with the flow and had no problem. It rained the entire first 2 days and I had no issues with stopping or starting. In fact most of the time I didn't even know I was pulling a trailer. There were high winds on one part of the trip but the trailer never swayed. Just remember U-haul doesn't rent if you have a soft top and if your load is extremely heavy it will of course effect how fast you are able to stop your Jeep. Once your trailer is loaded test drive it on a safe street and see how it stops. As long as you obey the rules and don't get over-confident you should have no problems towing.

We got a 2012 2 door auto Rubicon with 4:10 gears and tow a 1900 pound, when empty, pop-up trailer and it tows just fine. Get at least 3:73 gears for towing or if you can the 4:10.

|Smitty4x4||I tow a 3,300 lb boat with my 2012 JKU with no problems. Any of the models will do. I do recomend at the 3.73 gears or the Rubicon with 4.10s. If you are concerned with large sides on the travel trailer catching side winds the longer wheel base of the 4door will be more stable. Weight-wise the 2 door should pull it no problem.|

Somewhere either in this Forum or the JK forum there is a thread by a person that towed a flat bed trailer down from Alaska loaded up with household goods . She said she had no problems.... Might search or look thru these threads, been a couple months ago I think.

Towing a trailer with a 2-door Wrangler
I have just joined the site. I am not yet a Wrangler owner but am seriously considering becoming one soon.
We are looking at buying a very small travel trailer (13 feet/1300 pounds empty) and need to buy a vehicle to pull it. The vehicle I would really like to buy is a 2012 Wrangler 2-door.
Does anyone have any experience towing with a 2-door Wrangler?
Does this sound like a good idea?
Would it matter what model I got (Sport/Sahara/Rubicon)?
Any advantage to manual or automatic transmission?
Any comments would be welcomed.
