|VEGASJEEPER||I would get the 6 cylinder.|

It's a nice looking Jeep.... but I'm with the other guys here in thinking you can do better for your money? I bought a 92YJ 2.5 4cl 190K miles, with a snowplow for $2,200 and a 99TJ 4.0 6cl 130K miles, for $5,000. Check the frame for rust!!
Definately suggest the 4.0 if you want power.... Also - do you really want an automatic? Not knocking those who prefer...but thats half the fun of a Jeep!
Keep looking.... personally think private sales are better deals, but use caution wherever you buy! I would think you could find a good deal and still have dollars left over to make it yours.

|Southerner||I jumped in to quick when I bought mine. A 104k SE 98' about the same price. Still love it. I had to change the shocks and swaybar and belt. How come mine doesn't have cruise?|

Don't jump too quick . take your time and find the best one for your money.
i would not spend 8k on the one you are looking at.
a 4.0 is what you will really want in the end.
and what the guys did not mention is that you could spend 20k on one and you will
still throw more money at it making it YOURS...it's part of what we mean when we say it's a Jeep thing and you would not understand
and be warned once you own a Jeep nothing else will do.

|Dozer13JK||I'd keep looking around. Saying bye to my '98 this week and I got a good bit less than 8k for it. It's even a Sport with the straight 6 4.0L. 150K but here she is. Excellent shape for it's age.|

|TJspeed||Jeeps in my area go far a lot. My 2000 sport 5 speed 4.0 with 103k miles was priced at $9900. But the 4 cylinders go for WAY WAY less. A 2000 SE goes for about 6K. I think you should get one with a 4.0.|

|Lucky||I agree with the others. Seems a little steep for a 98 SE.|

Here's what 8k will get you in Texas with zero rust! Be worth a plane trip to me! This is where I bought mine for $6800, 2000 TJ 2.5.....just saying think you can do better!

|MXRac3r545||Seem alittle steep in price but looks good, again the rust may be an issue. I know for my area the price is a little high|

|drjay||I see rust on the wheel. Check the frame and under side. If you see rust run the other way!! You would not believe the work it takes to repair rust. BTW in good shape it is worth about 6K at most. Good luck...|

|Rubicon06Va||With $7000-$8000, you should be able to find 99-00 Wrangler 4L, inline-6. IMOP thats your best bet rather than 2.5L!|

|Ithinkiwantajeep||That's exactly what I wanted to know thanks a lot|

That price is probably fair for what a dealer would ask, but if it were a private party seller, it would be about $1000-$1500 less.

The SE 4cyl is a great Jeep, but for $8000 you should be able to get several years newer than 1998. I paid less than $6000 for my '99 SE.
You should be able to get a decent 6cyl Sport for about $8000 (1997-2001ish).

|MXRac3r545||Do you have a link too it that price sounds about right depending on if its modded or not|

Opinions on this tj please
So I have about 8000 for a used jeep and am searching online for one. I found a 1998 wrangler se 4 cylinder with 115000 miles on it. Is this a good buy or would I end up pumping a lot of money into it after I buy it? Also if you have any pointers for buying a jeep that would be great
