aggie84 im looking for the same thing that justinnx is looking for and i wanted to know if anyone had used the standard coil system from Rubicon Express

Upgrade to Rubi shocks if you have the sports.
They make a huge difference.

AEV will be more street friendly from what I here.
OME uses different spring rates I believe. Have to be careful there.

BlackTJ98 Check out teraflex's videos on youtube. The teraflex 4" longarm flex looks real nice and smooth.

County98 OR...if you (or the wife) like the stock ride, just do a spacer lift. Cheap, looks good, more tire clearance, rides the same as now.

Agree. Have the OME 2.5" and 33's on my wifes truck. She wanted it to look tough also, even though it's 90% on road. We run trails sometimes and it's great. It IS stiffer though. Stiffer is just...stiffer. Less body roll, less bouncy, but can be more abrupt and wont feel as cushy.

Higher=$$$$ to do it right
BIG tires=some loss of road manners

MY choice would be a teraflex 2.5" and some Duratracs (Aggressive looking AT, not as noisy), or the Terra Trail Grapplers we put on the wife's ride.

I like the "Expedition" look more than the monster rock crawler though. Everyones taste is different.

justinnx Thanks for all the feedback! What I am comparing to is I have a 2011 Duramax that installed a lift/33's and the ride is really stiff and bouncy. Kind of rides like a tank. :S

That is what I am trying to avoid so I can get it looking the way I want but keep the wifey happy. I am now torn between the teraflex or going with a lift with AEV or OEM. Which do you think will provide the best ride as listed above?

Understood.

I did replace all TRE's and the balljoints, that helped me out.

Teraflex was great and really helped.

Looks like I got stuck with a older kit.
First the front end issue, old frame trackbar bracket and just found out the wrong size rear swaybar links..

My problem-when all said and done- I was over 3" of lift, a whole new ballgame. especially with a short wheelbase 2 door.

You've got to admit your situation was unusual though--I can't say I've ever seen it repeated here. Your rake was way over corrected, driveline vibrations, all kinds of strangeness.

And while there's no doubt everybody's idea of what is a good ride is different, I am usually baffled by the desire to stay close to the "stock ride." It's really not particularly great. I failed to include teraflex as a recommended system. Very good lift.

Don't worry about "maintaining as close to stock ride as possible." That's the point JP just made.

JPi1 Remember this: as long as you stick to a high quality suspension system and shocks, and have a good experienced shop do the install, stick to a good tire, like Goodyear, BFG, etc, these JKs will ride better than stock. The old days of lifting a 1/2 ton Chevy by stacking more leaf springs and 6 shocks, then having it ride like a pogo stick are history. The good systems ride great! I have a 4.5 longarm on mine with 37" MTRs, took a customer for a ride, and he was really pleased and surprised that it rode so smooth.
My issue with the AEV system is you don't even get any control arms for the high price of the kit. The stock ones are flimsy and weak. AEV also claims the stock driveshafts are better and stronger than a double cardan!
Try rock Krawler, full traction, or currie for your lift.

justinnx If you think I need gears which do you recommend with that set up?

Did I choose the right parts to achieve our main goal for ride comfort for city/hwy driving? Or do you recommend something different?

Yeesh, I was hoping you'd say you had 3.73s. I'm not sure the weight of the MTs, but I bet they're heavy. And you'd be adding stock wheels to the MTs? Very heavy combo then.

You'll hear guys say they have 3.21s and 35" tires and it drives fine, and others will say no way. It truly will be your call, but I know I'd lean to new gears with your intended setup. It's going to feel sluggish as hell.

2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Lift/Tires/Gearing Questions

Been lurking through several threads and wanted to ask for input from you all. Recently took delivery of our Gecko 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited. I want to do a few things to it and want to make sure I am heading in the right direction.

I don't have many trails around here so 90%+ of the time will be highway and city driving. To be honest I want to make it have a aggressive look but yet maintain stock or better then stock riding comfort.

After looking at several threads it appears the OEM or AEV kit will be good. From reading am I correct the AEV will better fit my use? Here is the link to the one I was looking at. Again I want to ensure the best ride comfort is achieved for city/highway. Will be a DD.

For tires I was recommended to the Mickey Thompson MTZ's, I like the mean MT look but want to make sure my ride quality will maintain at least to stock comfort or better. (this is primarily going to be driven by the wife and she is picky ) Are these a good choice or what do you all think?

Last, I have been told by Quadratec that I may not need new gearing with the new 2013 motor, what do you all recommend?

I am not to worried about a budget with all the above just want to make sure I can give the Jeep a meaner look yet keep the wife happy and maintain the ride comfort as it is now stock or better.
