scott howard you can try and replace the fluid in trans.
and replace the master and slave cylinder and hope they were just shot and not letting you put in in gear good but most likely you need to replace the trans.
good news is that you can pick one up one ebay at a fair price and the install is not to hard if you are mechanically inclined at all and if not you can still do it.
just replace you clutch while you have it pulled.
feel free to call if you decide to do it and need help along the way.
i did mine and two friends in the last couple months so the steps are ( too) fresh in my head..lol

Clutch

My 2.4L 4 cylinder 2005 Jeep Wrangler is having problems with 1st gear slips out on own and then struggle to fight it putting in reverse. Any one have an idea or similiar problems? I pray its an easy, cheap fix!!
