This is so corect. I have helped put out 2 fires that were from people winching on small cables for to long. One time the cable was the only thing that got burned. The other time the hood and fender well got the paint burnt on them.

damndirtydog I think you can get by with #2/0 gauge wire for an 8,000 lb winch.
Not sure what gauge you're holding up. At worst Your winch will bog down under strain of a pull from the loss of amps due to a less than recommended gauge wire. I'd go 4/0 for an 11,000 winch.

05wrangler how man amps does your winch call for? depending on the amp rating and the type of wire used you can figure out what size you will need

Will this work for a winch?

Will this be able to carry the current needed to operate a winch safety or should I go thicker??
