I think i found the missfire problem........
i unplugged a sensor on top of the rear transfer case and now my jeep runs fine , can anyone tell me what this sensor is called ????

had the wrangler idleing today and removed the oil filler cap and found i have what seems like exhaust blowing out through the valve cover. How can i determine if its the head, head gasket or whatever else may be causing it???????????

The link below is a LONG read, but it looks like many of the 97 TJs have this problem. I was able to change the front O2 sensor and stop the problem, but others had to do much more.

|coolman8bc||Strange thing about mine is that there has never been a check engine light. Could it still be spitting out codes without the light?|

|baboonhands87||mine was a cracked head. but mines under warrenty still so it free to replace the only problem was the crappy retal they me. did u change ur spark plugs, it could be a blown head gasket?|

|Mudweiser||I had near about the same problem with mine when i first got it from the dealership. Its an 01 TJ. The check engine code was reading TPS. Changed it myself but still didnt fix the problem. After alot of research i found out the TPS has to be installed by someone who has the cpu reader. On the 01 at least i know the TPS is adjustable and even putting a new one in it wont fix your problem if it isnt adjusted and calibrated with the computer. After that it has run like a dream since.|

|baboonhands87||yup same thing is happening to me. must be something in the moons and whatnot. i am taking it o jeep tommor to get looked at. i have the warrenty so why not make it easy. i will post what the problem was it may help out|

|coolman8bc||I've got the same model as you, and mine when i first fire it up and start moving, it bucks and sputters until i jam on the accelerator and get the rpms up to at least 3 thousand. I havn't done any mudding or anything so could I have the same problem as you and what the other thread was talking about?|

i have a 97 wrangler 2.5 ltr after i drive about 3 miles it starts to sputter and misfire i had the codes read and it said there was a problem with the throttle sensor, which i replaced but i still have the same problem, i also changed the map sensor,camshaft and crankshaft position sensor and plug wires ...i'd appreciate any words of wisdom because this is really getting frustrating......................
