XJ's didn't have a 44 up front. Only in the rear and you are right they are setup for Leafs so you would have to set it up for aTJ.

The Rubicon 44 and the HP30 are very very closely related. If you were to put some 30 spline chromoly's into an HPD30 then I would say you have basically the same axle. Plus they are way cheaper than finding a Rubicon axle. You are going to pay out the *SS for one of those.

Mudweiser Seems like if you are goin to do this swap you would just look for a dana 44 for the front. Im in the process of looking for a swap in 44 for mine. Is it only in the rubicon you can get this option? Cuz finding one in a junkyard is seeming to be a pain. OR would i be better off just having one built for me or buying new? I guess the HP30 would be better in some instances though and if you are running a closer to stock tire then i am.

1BLKJP If you are going to go look for one try to just get one with out the vacuum disconnect. It will just save you a bit of work putting your TJ shafts in it etc. But it is a direct swap. Brakes, shafts, locker will all go from a TJ D30 to a HP30.

mrbigjeep MR.CLIFFORD your wife has one SWEET jeep! i saw the pics of it and it is awesome! HER rig is better than mine!

MR.CLIFFORD It is stronger going forward but not going backwards. That is only in the ring and pinion. Everything else is the same. I liked it because of the height you gain in the drive shaft. There were numerous times I thought I should have tweaked my front shaft but nothing happened. I'm getting ready to pull the front hi pinion 30 I had in my jeep and I'm stuffing it under my wife's jeep

ChilliRed Yes i read that somewhere too, thats part of the reason i am interested, stronger = better haha

biffstephens I have a friend that has one....his was out of an XJ....he did the axle, engine and tranny swap....

worked out well for him....

on the onther hand.....the advantage of a hi pinion is just a stronger ring and pinion....is that correct?

ChilliRed Wow rite in that sounds great!

10-18-2006 10:10 PM
MR.CLIFFORD Did it in mine. No regret other than I should have done a 60 in the first place. Mine bolted right in

High Pinion Dana 30?

I am curious about this conversion, has anyone done this to their jeep? Any complications? Did it work out alright, seeing as it is a cheap and effective upgrade if you are upgrading gears anyway?

Thanks
