Alaska TJ $200 for a clockspring at online retailers... Now to call the local dealer. This could hurt!

Sccafire If the clockspring was turned at all with the steering wheel off you will have issues. The clockspring needs to be aligned perfectly. When the come new they have a platic pin you remove just before putting the steering wheel back on. Their is a wound up ribbon inside the clock spring that moves when you steer. If the alignment is off you will pull that ribbon to tight and possibly damage it.

Alaska TJ Okay, I just read a few other threads about the clockspring and I probably did not take the necessary precautions to safe guard the clockspring from breaking. The write-up that I was following did not mention it as a risk, so I didn't ready know about it. Oops.

Alaska TJ Cruise control is also not working.

Is it possible to determine if the writing connection is faulty rather than the actual clockspring? Since I had no problems before I removed the steering column, I am skeptical that the clockspring would have broken during the removal or reinstallation. Of course, I have no idea how fragile it is...

netlohcs if your horn does not work, its the clock spring. What about your cruise control (if your jeep has it?)

Either way, keep in mind that until you fix it, your drivers air bag is NON FUNCTIONAL. I.E. in a head on collision it will do nothing for you Fix it right away.

Alaska TJ Oh, to remove steering wheel, I simply removed all bolts and nuts and disconnected all wire harnesses before pulling the entire steering column out.

Alaska TJ Hmmm... My horn does not work. Clockspring issue?

Sccafire How exactly did you move steering colmn and wheel? Does your horn work. If you have cruise does it work?

Airbag light after heater core replaced

Replaced heater core and now my airbag light is on... (Disconnected most electronics, mostly removed dash, removed steering column completely).

I removed my battery completely before starting the job.

I checked the onboard engine codes doing the 'On-off-on-off-on" check. There were no errors.

I checked the instrument control panel errors by doing the "odometer reset-On-release odometer reset" check and there were no errors.

I reset the ECD by touching the positive battery terminal to the disconnected negative battery terminal for 30 seconds, then I hooked up the battery, Ignition switch 'On', Headlights 'On', Headlights 'Off', Ignition 'Off'.

Passenger side airbag connection appears to be good. The clockspring connections appear to be good and all other steering column connections appear to be good.

Airbag light still on.

Maybe I need to go to an autoparts store and have them check the codes with a code scanner?
