|slf41002||Just be warned if it is the converter and you go smacking with any type of hammer/mallet you can break the honey comb material even more and small pieces will get up into the exhaust and clog things even more.It can also cause the insides to turn sideways and jam.Never the less who even replaces the converter have them start the Jeep for just a short bit and rev the engine a couple of times before they put the new converter back on to clear the smaller pieces that may have got up in there anyway.Just to be on the safe side.|

in the mourning while cool, start smacking stuff around the exhaust with a rubber mallet.

|jeeplover97||well in wasnt exactly the donut gasket but the exahuast manifold was loose try tighting up and see wat happens if it doesnt work i would also say converter|

|liveoutdoors3400||i've delt with jeeps before but not wranglers so im new too lol but where's the donut gasket and what's it look like? i think its the Cat converter because it does make a sound when i smack it but its also work a shot to take a look at that gasket also. And my bad about the RPMs haha i posted the thread after work last night and was a little tired.|

|jeeplover97||um im new to owning a jeep but i have a 97 and i went to get it inspected and it made a wierd noise wen i reved up it could be ur donut gasket i tightned up mine and it made the noise no longer and passed inspection just try tht and if problem persists try exhaust crack liquid glass will do just fine|

|slf41002||Close on the cats but wrong kind.I would say it is the catalytic converter.The core brakes loose inside and will make that noise.Lay down and smack the converter with the palm of your hand,if it rattles that is your noise.Make sure the exhaust is cool because the converters tend to get hotter then the rest of the exhaust when clogged.|

Hee hee...yeah, I get a camshaft lost my mind code at like 5200...
I'll assume he means 2500 RPM and go from there...
Does it do it as you are revving up AND down, or just one?
Does it last if you keep it at 2500?
Does it only doing it when driving or when you are sitting still and rev the engine to?
I could be a lot of things, loose/worn belt, bearings, motor mounts etc.
Do you get a vibration too? If so, is it felt in your butt or via the steering wheel?
Someone else may have a place to start, but for me, answer the questions above and tell us if you are getting a vibration too or just the noise.
If there's no vibration, I think that's good news. Need some more info tho...

When i rev my engine over 25000 rpms i get a noise that comes in burts of maybe 2 seconds that sounds like a buzz/grinding or a vibration. is my muffler loose? My freind had a car and when it didnt shift right the muffle would vibrate causing it to make a noise but a wrangler is much shorter and the muffler is pretty much completely different. the sound also seems like its coming from the engine area and not the back, but again wranglers are shorter so it could just seem like its coming from the front. Any ideas and do i need to be worried about this? thanks again
