In the write up on the jeep forum posted above towards the end they mention "with new gaskets, or silicon, reverse the above and put back together." Seeing as you have done this before I'm hoping you can help. Does that mean that the IAC is sealed on with a gasket/silicon? If that is the case can I use the same RTV that I used for my diff covers?

|ChrisJeepTJ||I cleaned up my throttle body and IAC over the weekend. I did it last summer too. I can't explain why, but every time I do my auto jeep runs smoother, especially noticeable on the highway when decelerating. I don't get whether it's the IAC, TPS or just the TB itself, but before cleaning the jeep feels like it lurches forward when I take my foot off the gas. Post-cleaning, it feels like it's coasting and buttery smooth.|

Everyone, thank you very much. Recently my vacuum line fell of the side of the engine. I re-installed the vacuum line and then my engine idle started to surge. When I slowed to a crawl and the transmission shifted to the lowest gear the idle is surging to over 1000 Rpms then it settles at 750-800 rpm. I think cleaning the IAC valve will solve the problem.

I have a 2005 jeep wrangler, 6cyl. And I want to clean my IAC valve but I don't know what it looks like. The cleaning instructions are simple I just need to know what it looks like. Can someone take photo of the IAC valve and share with me?

|Jerry Bransford||A bad IAC will not cause a TPS code and usually, the only thing that needs to be done with the IAC is to clean it, it seldom actually needs to be replaced. Clean the IAC as described above & if that doesn't fix the problem, replace the TPS. The TPS cannot be cleaned like the IAC can, the TPS has to be replaced when it goes bad.|

|sierchio||So I'm having an issue with the TPS... at least that's what the CEL code is telling me... I unplugged the IAC and ran it out the block and it seemed to drive a little better... but it's still stumbling when I shift into second and third and accelerate... would replacing the IAC fix this issue? Would a bad IAC cause a TPS code?|

It did actually help out a lot cleaning the iac not for the noise but I cleaned the throttle body and iac and WOW way smoother throttle and shifting seems a lot smoother

I have the same tea kettle noise I think mine is coming from the alternator. I wanted to tinker alittle bit today so I figured I'd clean the iac. Broke the bottom bolt out about mid ways. A new iac is 70$ so I just drilled the piece out and put a new bolt through it. Didn't help anything. I dont listen. If it ain't broke don't fix it . Haha
It should be " if it ain't broke it will be by the time I'm done with it"

Could these same symptoms show themselves after the vacuum hose for the dash air controls comes loose and you replace it on the side of the engine.

|Jerry Bransford||Can't say what the tea kettle noise is from, it could conceivably be the IAC valve letting air leak past it but I just don't know for sure.|

Held on by two small torx-head screws, the IAC comes off very easily. Just make sure to use a torx-bit that is sharp and in new condition so you don't strip them out, they have some Locktite on them so they will be tight and not real easily removed.
Once it is off, spray its solenoid actuated plunger and the hole it fits into on the throttle body with an aerosol throttle body cleaner. Then use a soft toothbrush and rag to finish gently cleaning the plunger. Don't push/pull/rotate the plunger, treat it gently.
Once it is clean, use the rest of the TB cleaner on the inside of the throttle body and bolt the IAC back up again. Be careful to not strip the torx-head bolts out by always making sure to be holding the torx-driver square to the bolt head and firmly in place so it can't slip out while you're removing it or screwing it back into place. The IAC unplugs from the harness fairly easily to make it easy to clean it.

Cleaning IAC valve
I have a problem with my 04 sport sounding like a tea kettle after a couple of minutes driving when I let off the accelerator and slowly goes away after a few minutes, some of you guys suggested cleaning my IAC valve ive never done this before and I need to know where it is located with and how to clean it and reinstall it, just wondering if it is difficult and me not knowing much about jeep maintenance would this be ok for me to do im a fairly mechanical guy im just new at this, any advice?
