love your set up, nice rig too

samzjeep Thx. I'm in the middle of doing the 4.0 head swap onto my 4.2. Then I'm gonna paint my jeep after the swap is done. FYI, those tail lights work awesome.

Hawaii5O Looks pretty sweet!

samzjeep I found them on ebay about a year ago. They were something like $120.00. A little pricey, but they work great and they have all the lights you need! Installation is pretty much just like the other LED lights, except they have the reverse lights too.

This is how i did mine. The tail lights have tail lights, brake, turn and reverse. The outer circle of the lights are my red ones (tail, brake and turn), the all of the inner led's are my reverse. The little side light is my side marker so I'm legal. All those LED lights are extremely bright!
Where did you get those rear lights from?

Ghost_rader This is what I used for rear side markers on my led conversion. 3/4 led. Bright as anything.
Here's a link to them. I got all my lights from this site. Great pricing.

all aftermarket lights may not have the same wire colors coming off of them, so you'll need to figure those out first. It's very simple using your battery, as LEDs will only come on with correct polarity and they wont blow if you accidentally hook them up backwards. I've come to find that a lot of times (not all the time) they'll use white as the ground wire, so start there... as far as factory wire colors.. here you go: (wires are diff colors on each side of the factory plug)

Taillights-
Driver Side:

Turn/brake +12v - Green/red stripe
Bulb side of plug- green/black stripe

Running light +12v - blk/yellow stripe
Bulb side of plug- white

Reverse +12v - purp/black stripe
Bulb side of plug- white/black stripe

Ground -12v - black
Bulb side of plug- no wire

Passenger side-

Turn/brake +12v - Brown/red stripe
Bulb side of plug- green/black stripe

Running light +12v - blk/yellow stripe
Bulb side of plug- tan

Reverse +12v - purp/black stripe
Bulb side of plug- white/black stripe

No ground on the pass side. You can easily ground it inside the tub behind the light hole..

03-14-2013 07:53 PM
xjrjrx Yeah the reason I say no to the el12 one is I have led all the way around and it wouldn't make them blink after I did the front ones I did have that one and it worked well with just the rear ones
03-14-2013 07:49 PM
1989yjguy Alright so just swap them for now, and by another one like my emergency one here soon?

03-14-2013 07:40 PM
1989yjguy Will that fix it? And where is that relay located so i can instal it?
03-14-2013 07:32 PM

vijay Awesome write up, I have few questions,
#1
Did you have to change the flasher as well?
#2
Any wiring connections mapping would be of great help, the WalMart lights have red, black and white.

92Justemptyeverypocket Awesome, but gotta fix a shut-off over bumps first and start offs... electrical is not always your friend.
But Jesus is! Better pray over it!

nicks_yj There just 4inch trailer lights right
09-05-2012 12:10 PM
denisbaldwin Great write-up! I really need to do pictures when I do stuff like this so it will help others. I could have saved myself a huge hassle doing my own lights if I had seen this before.

Rickybobbytomcruise Oh, and buddy was right about the EL-12 flasher. However, your Jeep uses an EL-12 flasher for hazard lights, so I just swapped them over and it worked like a charm
09-05-2012 08:12 AM
Rickybobbytomcruise Got them all from eBay. Two different sellers; one for the taillights, one for the reverse lights. Brake lights were pretty cheap, but still look awesome today. The reverse lights leaked a bit. They still work and are blindly bright, but their leaks allowed bacteria to enter, which is causing mildew-like growth inside the lens. I'll replace them this year I guess, and watch for possible weak spots in the plastic on install. Paid about $25 for each set of lights I think.
