PhotoWrangler HELL. YES!!!

I didn't realize that the new Jeeps had the Sunrider function! Our old 2003 X model didn't have that. We noticed the hinges today, but didn't know exactly what they were for. Pg 27 of the manual explains it all! Nice!!!

i have the clover patch window roll that works great for that, sunrider or down.

dougharry72 I roll back window when in sunrider but Leave sides in because a howto video said not to, something about losing tension. Works great, and rear window is such a pain to take in and out imo. All the way down"looks" better but as far as riding, i don't notice much of a difference than sunrider.....unless doors are coming off of course

I do the same roll the the back window up works great.

brighton I find if I have the top all the way up, no windows (sort of a bikini style), the sail panels don't come loose like they do in sunrider position, but I do worry about eventually wearing them out at the clips.

I'm 2.5 years into this top, and it's still in great shape, for something that's only supposed to last about 5 years. However, I do take care of it, apply 303 regularly, store windows so they don't get scratched, etc. Probably having my top down for a large part of the year helps also.

canyonrat Sunrider I generally leave side windows in because the rear corners catch the wind and flop around. Other than some noise it makes, over time I would expect that to stress/destroy stitching.

In top-down I have been pulling all the windows and leaving them in the garage to minimize scratching. This is the best but if weather changes you have fewer options on a drive.

I really want a bikini/tonneau combo that I would probably run with the other soft top totally removed...but it is already Sept and been blowing some $$ lately so that will likely wait till next year. Hopefully summer will not be so stinkin hot 2013!

You can have all the windows out with the sunrider open but sometimes at higher speeds, the rear sail panels can come unclipped at the rear corners.

I solve that by wrapping bungies around the panels and the bottom of the roll bars which increases the tension at the plastic inserts so they won't come off and flop around.

RB-10rubicon Sun rider open and back window tucked up on roll bar. Quick and easy. I always thought you couldnt have all the windows out and sunrider open.am i wrong on this?

Your top will also parachute in the sunrider position if you don't at least take the rear window out. Over time, that will put stress on the stitching and prematurely wear out the top.

Daggo will be able to tell you exactly where in the manual it advises you to remove the rear window when going more than 45 mph.

If nothing else, unzip the top and sides of the window and let it drop down into the back.

Exactly! Form a horizontal "W" with the three points in back...and you are good to go.

Interesting. I'll have to look into that. Sadly hardtop has to go back on soon. Winter is almost here :'( I love the sunrider, soooo fast to open and close. I never take the windows out unless I go top down.

Smitty14 I've had a hard top on one jeep and a soft top on another. It all comes down to preferences, but I just ordered a 2013 JKUS and insisted on a soft top sun rider.
The tops can do just about anything. And if the zippers go, find a sail boat shop and they will put on wet suit sippers that are better than factory.
As for the material, as long as you don't have branches falling on it u should be fine.

brighton I ride with the top in both positions. Usually if there is rain in the forecast (much of the summer in Florida), it's in the sunrider position with the windows out. It can be closed very quickly and I usually don't worry about the side and rear windows being out since my cargo liner catches most of the rainwater. During spring and fall when there is little chance of rain, the top stays completely down for weeks at a time. That's the great thing about the Jeep soft top, there are so many options.

Sunrider Position vs Soft Top Down

Is there any advantage to putting soft top down versus the sunrider (front and 2/3 of 2nd row open) position with side and rear windows zipped out? I've found that while I've tried the following positions: no top, soft top down, soft tup up in sunrider with no windows, soft top up with no side/rear windows, soft top up with all windows, that I spend most of my time with the soft top in sunrider and side/rear windows out. Mostly because I don't notice a difference in feel, and think I have slightly better rear vision, and my I dont like leaving my dog strapped in the back with the soft top folded down.

I guess what I'm wondering is: does leaving it up in sunrider position wear it out any faster than folding it down? Perhaps the 'sails' get stretched more quickly?

It's a 2013 with the premium fabric (dual top) and it's pretty easy to put it up / down myself, so I'm really only worried about wear / tear of sunrider vs down.
