The frame is rotted in some places. Same for the tub. It's hard seeing the pics of my jeep before I left it, and seeing it now.
I've got Someone looking at repairing the frame. When he fixes it, I'll start on the other mechanicals, trans, fuel gauge, clutch regear and rear locker, THEN the tub.
Sigh, needs alot of work

I will be coming back from Deployment in March time frame and would like to figure out what to do with it. Would like to find a couple buddies to give me advice and we can all help each other out with our jeeps. Whats the matter with your frame?

I don't think a stock D35 would last behind a small block, especially if you have a manual trans. Actually I think a small block v8 will tell you everything that's weak in your drivetrain! Lolz
I helped rebuild my I6 almost 10 years ago, and then had to put it in storage for a work relocation.
But I wish I had gone the v8 route. I see so many jeeps with Chevy / dodge / ford v8 implants.
If you go that route, my suggestion is to buy an old working 1/2 ton pickup rusted body / frame damage and scavenge everything from the drivetrain. Transfer case transmission & engine axles.
I would suggest you find a local mechanic to help you. You could work with him after the shop closes nightly, maybe get a better deal on labor rates.
I still may do that to my jeep after I get the frame repaired. But not sure if I budgeted enough money though.

|Evventr5375||Thanks Mike for the suggestion. With the V6 engine, won't I have to change out the rear axle to a Dana 44? I have never done a engine swap so I am curious.|

I think for the cost, you should look at a Chevy v6 or v8'for the following reasons
Cost- rebuilding an Inline 4 may cost you the same as a v6. The 91 was I think the 1st year of fuel injection, and you may have to replace that, the computer, block as well. If its legal here in Va, I'd check it out
Time, I helped the guy who did my swap out in 02. Took about a week to do it, & it took awhile to lose bugs
Scope, all things being equal, time & cost, might as well pick up a few extra horses.

Hey everyone. Haven't been on here in a while and had a couple questions. I have a 91 YJ with about 151K miles on it. I was thinking that when I come back from deployment, take my 2.5L engine out and get it redone with new seals and bore the engine out. Was thinking no more than 30 over would be good. Also would it be better to change the engine out for a straight 6 or an V8. What do you guys think? Send me your comments!
