Does the compressor seem noisy when it is running? Is the clutch engaging?

Since your pressure increases when the air conditioner is engaged, I assume your compressor clutch is working.
I'm leaning more toward bad compressor, but a high side reading would be helpful.

|Leeroy Jeepkins||Open your doors wide open when it is the hottest part of the day. That is the best way to check pressures. Check both the high side and low side. Harbour Freight is having a sale right now and you can get a set of gauges for $50-60. You will be able to narrow things down more with a high and low side reading. Otherwise it's just guesswork|

|crewchief9||i am having same problem 50 on gauge 35 high side. The warmer it is outside the worse my problem gets. Checked for leaks and found nothing. I even vacced system and reinstalled freon and am still having same problem|

|SeVeReDiStOrTiOn||Your static pressure looks low so you could have a low charge and/or leak... unless you checked it when it was 40* outside. The low side looks decent what was the high?|

|gmabry75||Check your fan clutch. Would help if you new what your high side pressure was doing.|

'98 TJ, 4.0L, Factory air, no previous problems.
Recently AC not blowing cold air WHEN IDLING. When moving, out on highway, etc., cools great. Stop at red light and it blows warm air. Checked freon with gauge, initially showed 40 psi then as compressor cycled, swung between 55 and 67 psi. If anything, pressure seems a tad high but freon has never been added. Wife is wanting something done. Can anybody steer me in the right direction?
