Going back and looking at other people's mounts, it looks like they are mounting farther to the right than I tried....I suspect that will be the correct location. I'll wait for confirmation though.
On the plus side, I got the side panels up. They are rock solid in their mount....I've also got almost 3 inches of storage behind them. Very happy with those...now I've just got to get the tailgate figured out.

Nothing ever can go smoothly for me.......
1st the good news. My tailgate table arrived today.
Now the bad news.....when I was drilling out the sheet metal, I appear to have hit "something" much more solid behind it.....maybe a rivet or something.
If I was drilling drywall in my house, I'd move over a half an inch or so and try again, but I'm not wanting to put any more holes into a new jeep than is absolutely necessary.....
Based on the location of my hole, any ideas on what I may have hit and how I can avoid it net time?

But reading through this thread and then seeing this post made me laugh my ass off. Maybe I'm just slap happy.

|sincemyyouth||Do you have to drill holes in the tailgate to use this tailgate storage product?|

Could anyone who got the original two piece mounts for these side panels please give me the dimensions of the two pieces? I am considering making some for myself and if they turn out well I will make them available.

|jkemt||I also used self tapping screws and had no problems|

|verax||Took the advice from another thread to get self tapping stainless steel screws. Did that, and no problems.|

Hopefully that doesn't happen again!

|verax||tried my install on Sunday, and now have a problem. The head of the screw came off, and I'm left with the rest stuck in the tailgate. I guess I'm going to have to drill it out or something. Any thoughts on removal, or once I get it out, how to prevent this for my next go-round?|

|houstonpdlt||Great, now that I have the 4 holes for mine, and the 3 I screwed up on. But there hidden and nobody bue me knows, well and now all of ya'll. But im still happy with it. Also, my side pannels dont move at all, the stock bolt holds them plenty tight.|

For those of you who do not like to drill holes...a little bird tells me that there will be a "no drill" MOLLE panel/ folding tray on the market in the not so distant future.
|02-19-2014 09:20 PM|
could someone do me a favor and post up a picture of the bottom of the steel molle panel? Is there a bar welded to the bottom, that then runs through the brackets, to let it swivel down to a table?? thanks.

These are some excellent ideas. I'm pretty good at working with metal, I am going to see how they come out using 1/8 or 3/16 Aluminum plate. Maybe do a jewel finish on the parts for looks, they wont need paint. I may consider making the side "pockets" come out about four inches (nearly flush with the wheel well) to allow tool rolls and things like that to fit in there. It's mostly wasted space anyway.
My problem is I try to carry too dang many tools, need to cull them out some..A handy storage system is just going to feed my need to carry half a work shop in the back. oh well..
Lots of great ideas and information around here, thank you all again!

Ok. Wasn't done with the tailgate. Added 2 12v outlets.

I'll run take one. It has about a 2" area which is perfect for sliding a tow strap into. I am very happy with the design.
With a towel between the tailgate and table it is solid as a rock with no noise.

|JustinCHorst||Any rattles from the tailgate setup/table? I want to order one but i also don't want a rattle trap... Thanks!|

Done with the tailgate. Also made the words red to match outside accent color. Wait, that sounded very HGTVish.

|dirtymoney||The side ones are pretty cool, but that is where my head and feet go when I sleep in the back seat.|

So I am talking to a local jeep Fab shop and they are going to build a set of these just wondering if there would be an interest in them. I am not tiring to sell them as they do not even exist yet but basically they would look like this. But different.. The one for the rear passenger side seat would conform to the shape of the seat not just a straight down piece this would allow for a lot more storage/attachment options..
Rdmcclosk: I used your photo as I have not been able to find a clear shot of these two installed, looks great hope you do not mind.
