Thanks for the invite - unfortunately it might be too late to get a pass faxed to and then mailed back from DLNR for Peacock Flats this weekend.

Would love to head out there in a group, keep in touch for the next run!

latenightroach Thanks for the latest Waikane info.

There's an entrance with no gate to Norfolk. If you're not driving slow and looking for it you'll drive right past it. That entire place back there has been used for years and years. The rich people that live around there try to keep the general public out by illegally dumping their green waste at the trail entrances, but as soon as that happens someone blazes another entrance. It's been a constant battle for decades.

In the end, all that's happening is that those people who live around there dump their trash where they shouldn't be dumping it (littering/illegal dumping if you will) and as a result, more trails are being blazed every time that happens. It's a fruitless attempt to keep people out of somewhere that they have no legal authority to keep people out of, and that's no better than people who go 4 wheeling in an area where they shouldn't when you really think about it.

Toole I'd leave Waikane Valley alone for a while, last I saw people are being arrested for trespassing now. The older lady who used to own the land before getting to the trails "didn't care" (she wouldn't say yes to us being there or no) that people were going back there, but now the land is owned by someone else who doesn't want us there

Just read today that the gate to Norfolk Trail was locked but there is a "more challenging" way around it.... Land is owned by the state, so I imagine as long as people don't go up there and trash it, it'll be ok to use

latenightroach I went up to Norfolk a couple of weeks ago. There's a ton of trails in there, some look a bit challenging here and there. Definitely going back there again.

Took a trip up Waikane Valley road today - locked gate. I don't really know where everyone goes to 4x4 there or where exactly the trail starts, but I saw two different gates there? One off to the right a ways up the road and one at the end. Too bad. I live on the fringe of Kahaluu, it would really be nice to have a place to ramble so close to where I live.

Been away from off-roading for quite a few years now until I picked up this Jeep. Damn these are so much easier than a truck that it ain't even funny. I used to go on the trails off Kapaa Quarry Road (dump road) some years ago but it was all blocked off the last time I checked.

I really need to hook up with some other Jeepers here...my son is a little too skinny to "armstrong winch" me out of trouble with my come-along. I could definitely put some better tires to use as well, these things that came with it when I bought it are just 31" M+S rated street tires.

Toole Kaena Point like most have mentioned, Peacock Flats (have to register a week or so before you want to go but it's free), Waikane Valley (watch out for cops if going there tho), Norfolk Trail..... I'm sure there is more

Peacock Flats: (there are calmer trails there too)

Kaena Point

Waikane Valley (not legal to go there anymore)

I haven't personally been to Norfolk Trail yet but I hear its not too rough of a trail

latenightroach Howzit Swied,

Kaena Point is public. I go from the North Shore side. Easy place to navigate - you can pretty much ramble all around there in 2wd which isn't all that exciting, but it's a beautiful place.

Swied88 Is K'eana public?
09-02-2012 07:12 PM
ACostello K'eana point (west of north shore) is a good place to go and just wheel around, right on the water too and dosnt cost anything.

If your looking for a day trip or even some camping, look into peacock flats reservation. the trails run across the entire western peak of oahu and eventually end at a camping site about 3000 feet above sea level. beautiful views and awesome trails.

Trails in Oahu?

I've been asking around to some of the locals here in the island but no one can give me a good answer. Are there any public trails on the island or maybe some easily accessible not-so-public trails? Put some pics up if you have em
