You're pretty local to me (WSFV)
Count me in. I've been out there a bunch of times and love that place.
Usually camp down in that spot past the racetrack.

Hi all, new to the Jeep US scene. had plenty of land rover Defenders in the past.
Just picked up my JKU last week and can't wait to get out on the trails and DV is a must from what I have heard.
Would love to join any adventure..

Read today the road at the bottom of South Park Canyon is washed out up to Briggs Cabin:
"The road is marginally passable by a dual sport bike. Quads and dirt bikes OK with effort. 4x4's lifted and locked with determination and a spotter. The carnage begins at the junction of the road in from Ballarat. The first section climbing the mountainside has many sections washed off the face of the mountain and off camber that put one at risk of sliding off what's left of the road. The canyon portion of the road is primarily bedrock"
Sounds like fun to me.. Even if can't cross the bridge anymore in a jeep

We'll probably do 1 or 2 DV runs this Winter, but too far out at this moment for us to make real plans.
Keep in touch!

Thanks for posting the trip report and pics. Will be doing our trip report this weekend. Didn't get to see all the cool things you did but it was still a great time and met a great couple to wheel with.

Hope DaK's trip went off OK, and that we hear a trip report from him soon.
Our DV visit on the 9-11th was PERFECT. Temps in the mid 70's and mid 50's at night.
We stayed in the campground at Stovepipe Wells (basically a dirt parking lot). Only $12/night for tents or dry camping in an RV. That's the best thing I can say about it really. It was convenient, and we didn't spend much time there.
1st stop was Mosaic Canyon, about 1/2 mile dirt road to a hiking trailhead. A beautiful narrow polished marble canyon with at least 1 major fault line exposed in the strata (not marked, you gotta' know what you're looking at, but it's fairly obvious).
2nd stop was actually called Marble Canyon. An easy dirt & sand road to a gravel wash going into a fork, one side Cottonwood Cyn and the other side Marble Canyon. We hit Marble 'cause there were supposed to be petroglyphs during and undisclosed hiking distance from the end of the Jeep trail.
It was a typical gravel wash road that any 2wd truck could easily accomplish. We walked about 1.5 miles...didn't see any petroglyphs (but found a sea snailshell fossil that was really cool). The narrows about 1 mile in are worth the hike. Increadible.
Saturday we took Saline Valley Rd (dirt) from 190 to Lippencott Pass (class IV...steep & rocky & narrow & high) to Racetrack and then on to Teakettle Junction and on to Scotty's Castle. That was a long day....about 10 hours, 7-8 of which was off road. A great day and highly recommended for Jeeps only (no long wheelbase vehicles on Lippencott..too narrow). Lippencott was challenging, but not a big deal with '33's and a 3" lift. I didn't have to hit the ARBs all weekend. Fun, fun day.
Sunday we only had a 1/2 day, so we did Hole-in-the-Wall. An easy gravel wash with spectacular geologic formations. We surprised a rare Desert Bighorn Sheep (female). She ran FAST and by the time we got the camera out she was pretty far off.
While walking to a higher area to see if we could get a better shot, we found a petroglyph! Doubt that anyone has found it before...really in the middle of nowhere.
As if that weren't fun enough, at the very end of this trail there is a fun 1/2 trail up a very loose & off camber red rock hill that's really enjoyable to tackle.
There's the report. I'll try to post some photos now.

Have a great trip. Please take lots of pics of the places you visit and trails you travel. IF, you have a GPS that takes .gpx files we are always interested in traveling other trails people have blazed.
Again, safe travels. Look forward to the trip report.

|DaK||No problem, more than sure we will make another trip in Apr, this one will only be to Ballarat and into South Park via Pleasant Canyon Trail. Not a long trip but we will get back to Briggs cabin, look down into Striped Butte Valley and some other sites as well.|

Thanks for the offer Dak!.....but work prevents us from going the weekend of the 17th....maybe some other trip?
Really appreciate the invite Sir!

We will be headed out the next weekend... doing coyote over through mengal pass the first day, then running around the park the next day. More than welcome to join us if you can.
We can't change the plans as we have reservations at the ranch and there are none available the weekend of the 10th.
