|my_yj||before you buy a new pump their should be a hose attached to the pump coming from the fuel tank while the engine is idle hold your hand on th rubber hose and feel for a strong steady intermitent stream of fuel it could be your stepper motor (that rectangle contected to the back of your carb. it's like the IAC of earlier models) it has a needle in the carb just look in the carb while it's running to see if when you give it gas it moves that'll tell you that it's working and then just spray the little needle out with choke cleaner|

|Burmman||Sorry I guess I should of add this also. It's a 6 cyl the 4.2 and carburated stock engine. Also an automatic. As of tonight it only seems to flood when trying to start it. I tried some cleaner and also tried some starting fluid to get it started and it didn't really help at all. After I get it running now it act's as if it's not getting enough gas. I changed the fuel filter tonight and I'm waiting for a fuel pump so I can change it also. The fuel pump on it looks new but I understand they can go bad being new also. Sorry that I forgot adding the engine info before.|

|Ol' Red||Im guessing its your idle air controller ( I think is what its called) or IAC. Symptoms of that are cutting off while the Jeep is stopped or in neutral, which sounds like your problem. Spray some cleaner if you have it and see if that helps before you go out and spend money.|

89 YJ flooding itself out.
My Jeep had set for 2 months before I got it and I have been working on it and now driving it. I took it on the highway last night and after getting off the highway I came to a red light. I stopped and the Jeep stalled on me. I could smell gas really bad. I tried to start it and it wouldn't start. After I held it to the floor and it started back up. Now if I'm driving it the Jeep will stay running fine. When I stop at a light or stop sign it floods out. Will Carb and Chok cleaner fix this or do I need a new carb? Please Help.
