I really appreciate the offer and creative thinking, but money is not really the issue. The costs have been paid for already, it would just be nice to get some of that back. Besides, I would feel terribly guilty taking your hard earned money and hanging onto it for some unforseen amount of time without a product ready to ship. I love the fact that you have faith in my work and what I am building and I thank you for that.

Balancing cost of production with everything I want in the top is difficult, but it will happen.

Gonzos Wrangler Nice, very nice!
I like the military look it gives the jeep.
Kudos on the design.

lambsb Show off! I want one! 97 TJ tan please! Looks perfect for zombie hunting. Seriously nice work you should manufacture these.

MTJeepTJ One of the best threads i have read on here so far. The top looks amazing great work. It would be very useful to somebody that uses their Jeep for stuff like hunting/fishing due to the easy access and raised room overhead to mount gun/fishing rod racks. Netting would be awesome on the sides and back to prevent tree branches from scratching the plastic windows if a guy needed to keep his dog in or something. I could see buying something like this if it were production myself.

Squint Unfortunately, no decision yet on pricing. The top is getting much closer to production ready though. An announcement is due January/Feb about availability and price if all goes as planned. The original design has changed slightly however it does still have the classic look of version 1. Honestly, I am not sure they are expected to fly off the shelves since the Jeep community has come to expect pricing based on plastic and thin aluminum parts along with inexpensive overseas labor, all of which this top is the antithesis. After driving it around for a year, I have to say that I still absolutely love this top and look forward to seeing a few more on the road. I really appreciate all the great comments

SeaRat Just totally awesome. My wife and i were looking into new tops for our TJ & YJ. This would be perfect for our family lifestyle. Great job!

Semper Fi03 I just found this yesterday. Is there any thought, prices, of selling this? I love the way it looks also. I have a red 2006 LJ Rubicon that I would put that on!

ibrown3005 Great looking top. I have been playing with the idea of investing in a Trektop NX for my JKU, I would definitely go for this top. Looks very versatile and well made. Great Job Squint!

Squint That is one cute little doggy.
It wouldn't actually make sense to make them for LJs only so TJs are definitely on the radar.

Shadowkraze I want a top like this for my 97 TJ so bad I could cry...

gixxerphil I reminds me of soft version of jscherb's safari cab hard top.

Jacqui What you have created, sir, is not only a classic look for a modern Jeep, but a classy look, period. Your soft top design looks amazing. So versatile. Looks to be made of high quality material and craftsmanship. Very well done! As soon as my husband wakes up, I'll be showing this to him. He's going to fall in love.

Corbeau You got mad skillz (as my students say), Squint. My brother, who restores Land Rovers (Series I to III, just for kicks) would be proud...

BigThunder I'm thinking I either want a "Squint Top" or I want to invest in them.

Squint Honestly, I expected it to be somewhat loud but it has quite a few straps and pulls together quite tightly which makes for an extremely quiet ride. . I have an OEM soft top which is very quiet (just a slight fluttering noise) and I would say mine is about the same. On the other hand a friend of mine has the same year LJ with an OEM top and the material is thinner and makes a ton of racket.
I used sailcloth so I believe that makes the difference. I really wanted to use something entirely different and almost went with an olive drab canvas, but I knew that would be trouble since they stretch, have to be treated with a bad smelling oil to seal it, and it would not last as long in the Arizona sun. There was another type of cloth I was thinking about as well which was softer, thicker and as durable as sailcloth, however, it would be extremely difficult to sew, the cost was much higher and the color choices were severely limited.

markmdz very very nice. The first thing I thought when I saw it was it looks just like a 5-ton or duece & 1/2. With the wheel/tire combo on the LJ, it just looks so damn good. Well done sir. Very good utility out of the cover too. How's it handle highway speeds?

Squint I guess the words "home made" conjure up some funny kid's science project.

Thanks and I appreciate all the kind words and support. It makes it worth all the hard work.

I have had quite a few people asking me to build these over the past few months so I am actually working on it and definitely have some forward movement so stay tuned, but there are definitely some very large hurdles to get over. I started an "interest" list and the more people on that list, the better at this point. If you like, send me an email at gdon AT cox DOT net with some basic info: Name, location, type of Jeep, and color desired.

Oh and the sides and back also completely zip off like this:

Sorry for all the parking lot pics. I have been mostly mall-crawlin' lately.
