TXST8tj They are American Outlaw - Buckshot wheels.
They are NOT the wheels I am getting, but they suit this TJ well.

The 2000 was the initial cost only. Much cheaper place to start, leaving room for improvements/mods.

Mine was 6000, but in better shape overall. That 4k difference, and then some, has turned it into a mighty nice looking Jeep with a nice solid foundation going forward.

Patrick, which wheels are those? Those the alloy ones you are planning for your TJ?
12-21-2012 10:01 AM
TXST8tj Bought them used on craigslist. Not my style, but they are in perfect shape.

SS Adrenaline Where did you get those flairs from? Do you have a link for them?

TXST8tj At the complete risk of ruining the reveal with actually decent pictures.....
BFG AT 315/75r16
American Outlaw "Buckshot"

erickpl Sounds great, Patrick!

Wrangler40L Great project!!!

TXST8tj Getting new wheels and tires.....again! The BFG MTs are not worn even and are not balancing well. It's not worth the wobble.

Going with a BFG AT in the same size and a different style of wheel. The AEV wheels and tires are already sold.

Bestop tire carrier is installed, as is the sub/amp.
Bestop Trektop NX coming for Christmas.

Will post pics when everything is mounted up.
12-06-2012 09:10 AM
erickpl Almost looks like it needs some 3/4" spacers up front from that side shot.

Looks great though!!!!!!

TXST8tj Will update with some better pics, but here are a couple.
We had it professionally buffed and the paint looks great.
The flares are mounted and the lights are wired up.

Did not get to the spare tire carrier or sub install, but those will be done this week.
It is living at my buddy's house for good now. I am going over there to help out with it vs doing the work at my house.
I am about to start the DIY hi-line flares for my TJ and need all the room of my garage.

11-26-2012 03:56 PM
TXST8tj New fuel pump is in.
Exhaust is done...manifold, cat, O2 sensors, muffler, and all piping in between - 100% new
KC lights are wired up.
New smoked turn signal lights.

Picked up some 'pocket style' flares for it.

We will hopefully be finishing everything this weekend.....tire carrier and sub/amp install.

Sneak peak at the flares. I'm not really a fan, but it's not my Jeep. The owner likes them and that's all that matters.

LSU_TJ I'm offshore until Tuesday, but I'm sure we will cross paths one day.

Well don't come by today. It's heading to the exhaust shop.
Front spacers went in yesterday evening.

Haha...not quite. I have a stack of AEV parts to be installed on a new JKU on Saturday. It's nice stuff, but it's going to be a long day of bumpers, skid plates, cans, winch, and lights.

erickpl Sounds good. And you have a free bay for the weekend.

TXST8tj The stock flares were painted, they just haven't been installed (obviously ).

My buddy is coming over this evening to lend a hand. The plan is I work on the front spacers while he installs the new fuel pump assembly.

He is taking it to the shop tomorrow for the alignment and exhaust. He'll bring it back Monday and I will work on getting the tire carrier, fender flares, and sub/amp installed.

After that, it is done other than stuff we haven't ordered yet.....new soft top (Trektop NX) and 4.88 gears.

No replacements for the bumpers yet, but I am going to try to push the JCR DIY bumper kits. Great look for the money.
11-14-2012 08:43 AM
erickpl Looking good. What's the plan for fender flares?

Any luck on finding a replacement for that set of tube bumpers?
11-13-2012 11:08 PM
TXST8tj I installed the rear 3/4" spacers, rear swaybar links, and trackbar bracket this evening. The front spacers go in tomorrow, and then it's off for an alignment. They will be installing the full exhaust system while it's there.

(pardon the mess of a garage....through the mess, note the sweet AEV bumpers near the tool chest - they go on a new JKU this weekend).

11-08-2012 12:01 PM
LouieDelTorchio Lets hope the rear trackbar bolt isnt stripped like mine was. What a pain in the ass!
11-08-2012 10:19 AM
TXST8tj I installed the new mirrors, floor mats, and door sill protectors. What an exhausting 7 minutes .

I am planning to install the 3/4" spacers, rear track bar bracket, and rear sway bar links this evening.
I will get to the Bestop tire carrier after that.

I really need to get this thing done because every time I turn around, we have ordered more parts for it.
The new fuel pump assembly came in yesterday (he ordered that), and the new exhaust system should be in next week. We ordered everything from the manifold to the tip. It does have an exhaust issue somewhere, but he basically decided he would rather get it all replaced now while the goin is good.

I expect to have the Bestop Trektop ordered any day.

No, they are just the black neoprene covers.

I slapped the 'new' wheels and tires on so I could get the old set on CL to get them something out of the garage. We had the tire removed from the rims and then remounted and balanced just to freshen them up. We haven't found anyone reasonable to powdercoat the wheels, so we're rolling with them like this for now. Honestly, I think they actually look pretty darn sharp with the paint.
I still need to add the 3/4" spacers.....

I got a lot done in the garage this weekend....just not on this Jeep. I was able to get some other stuff out of the way, so I should be able to get some good work done on this one this week. I would really like to have everything done with it this week, but I would be happy with getting it out by next week.

You don't want the old mirrors. They don't stay vertical at all. The ball joints are 100% worthless.

erickpl What seat covers you going with? I'd look at Iggee over my Bestops. The Bestops are not as nice as I'd like and probably not what you'd want to put in there.

Forget door sill protectors. Just line the interior, including the sill, then put the carpet back in.

Can I have the old mirrors?
10-25-2012 02:13 PM
TXST8tj We started discussing a new top for the Jeep today. The current top is a Bestop RAT. It's a few years old and not in terrible shape, but has faded a bit and the windows are scratched pretty good; not to mention, not tinted. The passenger side upper half window is cut, so we ordered a new set of Bestop uppers.

It just seems silly to go to the lengths we have to freshen this up to not to put a new top on it too.

He and I both have Trektop NXs on our TJs and if we swap tops, that is the route we'll go with this one. Since we already ordered new uppers, that will just be one less thing to buy.

I have good luck selling OEM tops in my area, so I would expect to recoup a good bit to offset a new top.

The current list of things still to do with the Jeep.......

- powder coat AEV wheels
- remount 35" BFG MTs
- install 3/4" coil spacers, rear swaybar links, and rear trackbar bracket
- get alignment
- install Bestop oversized tire carrier
- install new seat covers
- install door-sill protectors
- install new side mirrors
- install floor liners
- install headunit, sub amp, and sub (in my rear trunk/enclosure design)
- wire windshield and bumper KC lights
- potentially install new soft top

A couple things I'm looking into for it now are replacing the whole exhaust system. I am looking at systems, but considering replacing the manifold and then taking it to an exhaust shop and having the whole thing replaced from there back.

Next up would be gears. I would like to throw some Alloy shafts in the rear at the same time.

I have a design in mind for front and rear bumpers that I would like to try building. This Jeep would be the perfect recipient of them. I am secretly going to do my absolute best to get rid of those tube bumpers and steps.

We ended up ordering more stuff for it. I am excited to get it all out of my garage. I've got my own TJ to work on. Haha.

Currently looking for a local powdercoater to coat the AEV wheels.

is it me or the trailer and the jeep have the same wheels
