Hey thanks for all the help. I changed the terminals and striped the wires for cleaner connections and now Heidi is running good as new.
There was a lot of corrosion and some worn terminals but everything else seemed to be ok.
Again thanks to everyone for the help.

You could have a bad alternator and the battery is not charging, or the contacts on the battery are bad enough to not allow the battery to charge properly; or even a bad battery.
You may not need new connectors, just make sure there is no major corrosion or broken wires on the connector. Use water to soften all the corrosion, it is cheap and easy, and try not to scrape the terminals with a knife or some object like that. Even soak the connector all the way up into the cable too, for a while, it will help clear the contacts since the corrosion also climbs up into the cable too.

I checked the voltage at the starter/solenoid (together for and 88') it looked good when off but it actually went negative when tried to start. Is this normal? I am going to get new terminal clamps today and do a many have suggested and strip some clean wire for the connection.
Thanks guys if you think of anything else let me know I will tell ya'll how the change goes.

|draarong2004||this actually just happened to me, found out today that it was a loose terminal, it didn't look loose and seemed tight, till i tried turning the butterfly nut and it went around almost a full turn...sounds like the wiring is goin bad...mine made the same click noise, radio would work, heater fan would turn on lights would work...but not a good enough connection for the starter to turn over.|

i had the same problem on my 88 - clean the posts on your battery and in my case replace both clamps. I also had to strip the positive wire cable back an inch to get some fresh wire.
you have enough juice with your current connection to run the accessories, but not enough with the bad connection to kick your starter.
Thats another place to look into...

HELP: 88'- One Click No Start
So, My 88' Wrangler (4 cylinder) is not starting. I turn the key and there is one click and no crank. All my electronics work. When I push start it, it runs great. I have checked the starter, the battery, alternator and relays. I also tried connecting another ground to the starter and/or engine. I don't know what else to check. I thought that I could be the Igintion coil but it runs fine when I push start it.
I am running out of ideas. Anyone out there with similar problem?
