Colt45 I just bought an 01 also for 10k. The body is perfect literally not a scratch on it. Full hard top 6 cylinder 5 speed. For that kind of money go buy new and get your choice of exactly what you want and a kick ass warranty. Nice work on reversing the deal btw. Most people will get the run around for a long time on something like that.

luckyluke13 I just bought my '01 for 10k, a few bruises and scars but i love it. I think you probably didnt get the nest deal, but screw it, hopefuly you can make it work, people here are pretty knowledgeable and wiling to help. Welcome to the family

Moose5 Brand new jeeps start at 23 grand... 21 k for a 2002 is unbelivable. If there's one thing I learned from my dad, is you gotta be careful of used cars. "We dont buy other people's junk" he always told me. He always bought new, even If that meant saving up for a very long time

We made a list of all the issues the Jeep had: Rotting frame with fresh filler & spray paint, clutch on its way out, throwout bearing shot, 2nd gear synchronizer toast, coolant leak, problem with the ignition switch (could start it without a key & the digital odometer wouldn't boot up if the switch wasn't in a certain position), and a bunch of petty stuff too. Our mechanic called the car place and talked to the salesman, who refused to do anything. He asked for the owner's number and was given to the service dept. The service dept offered to patch the frame at which point our mechanic told him that the Jeep was unsafe and it was against the law for them to have sold it to us. About 15-20 minutes later, the salesman called and offered to reverse the loan and the sale and refund us all our money plus our trade in piece (92 Bronco). We went up and gave them the Jeep back, they gave us 4 of the 6 keys to the Bronco, and had left the windows down and the doors open on it so wet seats and no battery. Then we were sent to talk to the owner. The owner swore they just paint frames to make the cars look pretty. Not buying it. We had turned them into the BBB and he was more concerned with us dropping the complaint. He offered us $100 to drop the complaint and let him find us a Jeep at auction. We declined. Found out today that they cancelled the tags on our Bronco as we were leaving the car lot in it, we're lucky we weren't pulled over! I have no love whatsoever for this place, they are the most shady, slimy, sleazy place I have ever dealt with...But at least we got out of the loan and got the Bronco back....
Good job!

coldbluedsteel Good luck to you and to your Wrangler X! What ended up happening? I have an X as well, and it was the best truck I've ever had! I love it.

The car lot (after our mechanic threatened them with an attorney) is offering to patch the frame, but there are multiple other problems with it.

I guess what I'm getting at is: Should I fish or cut bait? Anybody have frame patches? How did that work out? I paid 21k after finance charges & I need the jeep to last me at least through the 4 year note.

r3v0lution There is no way... Cut bait and haul butt.. My '03 was completely decked out when I bought it.. Nothing wrong what-so-ever.. Frame, body, etc all fine.. Only 55,000 on it when I got it.. And I only paid $14k.. Let that POS go and find something else.. I always test drive a potential ride straight to my mechanic, this will avoid any wasted time!

It sucks to have shady people that make a living off ripping people off.. I think that's way too expensinse for a 2002! I paid 14K for a 2007.

Best of luck to you.

doclouie Yea I would not deal with frame rot. Find a cleaner Jeep. If the frame goes south the rest of the Jeep will be worthless no matter how good everything else is.
