stroked250 It's been a while for me, but on my 2009 Grand Cherokee I added the NavTV. I can attest that their customer service and their sales are top notch. I did a lot of research at that time and NavTV worked like it was OEM where the LockPick required some special knob push or another initiating sequence. This may have changed since then.

I did have an issue with the AllGig on my 2009 GC. I worked with the tech directly and got new code to update the AllGig via USB several times. The issue was never resolved over a few weeks. I lived with it for a while then pulled it. The issue was that the dash lights would all go on for a second (like you started the car) while driving. Nothing lost power or went wrong. As I understand it, this happens when the the AllGig get a signal that it does not recognize. The main function on the AllGig is to intercept the CANBUS and re-interpret specific requests, such as park, to enable video in motion. I did not have any additional electronics added to the CANBUS. They were never able to identify the signal that threw the error. That said, I still like the way AllGig worked over LockPick. It was plug-and-play.

I have not researched them since.

For what its worth, I emailed Coastal Tech support to see if the V5 is compatible with the 2013 as I just ordered a 2013 JKU Sahara with 730N NAV/Radio. Below is their response.

"... Great! Thank you for the information. Both the MyGIG LockPick and CHR550 LockPicks are both fantastic products and are both completely compatible with your vehicle.

The MyGIG LockPick v.5 will simply unlock Nav in motion, video in motion, as well as factory camera on demand. The MyGIG LockPick v.5 also includes A/V inputs, A/V outputs (of the factory DVD signal), as well as an Aux video input for the installation of a rear view camera..."

I have a version 3 lockpick and am trying to figure out if this will fit on my 2013 Sahara. I had a 2010 Sahara which it worked fine on my 730N. I have a 2013 730N now and I don't want to take the dash apart to find out that this doesn't work.

Is the version 3 worth upgrading? I think it has a USB port on it. I bought it two years ago. TIA.
I bought a lockpick v4 in 2011 for my 2011 Sahara. Paid around $460. Probably too much. Worked great. Traded Sahara in for a 2013 Sahara. Lockpick v4 is not compatible with 2013 even though dealer said it would be. Bummer. Until I can sell lockpick v4 I won't get the v5 but miss the back up camera.

stryke-force Well, sure enough, the connectors came loose. This time there in good. What a relief.

stryke-force I installed a lockpick v.4 about a year ago and today I got the blank screen no radio. Radio won't turn on, nothing works. No blown fuses. Looks like I'm going to open up the dash tomorrow and see if any connectors came loose. Wish me luck.

No problems at all with the chr550 and an automatic in the 2013 with the 730n.

There are compatibility issues with the 2012s with manual transmissions. The CHR550 and v.5 works fine with 2012 models with the automatic transmissions. Unless you install it wrong, or bend a pin, or the unit fails, or the security code gremlin gets ya, or the head unit won't turn on <sarcasm over>.

I'm assuming this holds true for the 2013 models.

jwilson2598 Update...turns out it was operator error. I looked at the Lockpick harness again and found one of the pins hit bent. I straightened it out and now it works fine.
10-05-2012 06:18 AM
jwilson2598 I looked on their site and there are no firmware updates for the V5. I sent an email asking if it was 2013 compatible, and got a it's not on our list, but hopefully in a couple months response. When I wrote back asking why the instructions say 2007-2013 on them, I got a we should have something soon response. The conflicting responses are quite confusing, but better than the zero response I got from NavTv when I asked them about the AllGig.

When I did have a display, the Lockpick features including backup cam seemed to be working, just no audio, which is why I'm questioning it potentially being 2013 incompatibility.

karib4u Update:Even though I bought the lockpick CHR550 from Bestradardectectorsdotnet (thinking I would not have to deal with poor customer service from Coastaltech, wrong!) I was required to first troubleshoot my issue of a dark screen when in auto reverse mode with the infamous Carols. First he was rude saying that the camera wasn't grounded properly. My husband called him and he wouldn't even talk to him until he had taken out the head unit with access to the lockpick. My husband had to come home early from work to do this! Then, he tells us the only solution is to do the infamous "rewiring workaround" that will cause me to lose the video in motion feature of the lockpick. I told him that I'm not interested in losing any function that I paid for and that I would like to return it. He has to email the company approval for a return. Such BS! Never will I recommend this company or their POS product. I will buy the NAv-tv at this point. I will let you all know how it goes. Good luck!

keod I can attest to the quality of the NavTV unit and their customer service. Installed in 2011 730N unit without any problem. All works great and I had them wire in a relay to make it even easier. Little more expensive but worth it IMHO
09-30-2012 07:04 AM
jwilson2598 I installed the Lockpick last night in my 2013, but can't comment on functionality yet since I got the radio security code screen when I plugged it back in, so I'm SOL until I can get it from the dealer

Metonymy I wrote the NavTV sales staff Thursday night:

Quote:
Good Evening,

I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler with the 430N nav system. I've been comparing your system to the Coastal system and am having trouble deciding which to get. In trying to compare, it looks like the other system has more wires and an iPod input, but it seems like the Nav-TV unit doesn't?

I may just be bleary-eyed from reading specs, but are there really any key differences between the two systems?

Also, the Nav-TV system is about $55 more than I've found the other system for on Amazon. I'd rather buy once and buy quality, however I'm hoping you can clarify these details for me.

And yes, I'm writing you and not Coastal as I'm leaning towards your system given what I've read about your customer service. That means a lot. But so does price and unit functionality.

Lastly, I'm mainly looking for dvd unlock, nav input while driving, and the ability to hook up a backup cam (namely one with the parking lines as my jeep is lifted and on 35's and I have a full size spare that covers nearly my entire back window).

Any feedback/insight would be greatly appreciated.
They replied Friday morning in a very honest and candid fashion:

Quote:
Hello!

Thank you for your interest in our products.

Although the Coastal LockPick has a few more bells and whistles than our AllGIG, our module is a very solid and reliable unit, and is backed by our dedicated sales and support team.

The video/navigation in motion, as well as the camera input work very well with this module.

In a world where more and more products are being manufactured out of the country, Nav-TV proudly develops and builds our products right here in the United States. This also means that if there are any issues, they can be addressed directly and quickly in-house.

As far as price vs. quality, think of it this way, the price is something that you have to deal with once, while the quality is relevant to the entire life of the module.

Thanks,
Tony
I have zero intention of adding head-rest monitors, nor do I need an iPod integration cable (heck I have the USB port in my center console for that anyway if I choose to go that route).

On top of that, "Made in the USA" still counts for a lot with me. I need to find out if the Coastal unit is made here or overseas. If it's made elsewhere, I know which one I'll be going with. If they're both made here, I'll still be in a conundrum.

Well yes, I have standard backup lights on my wrangler like all the others do. I would think if that was the issue that everyone would be in the same boat. Worth looking into though. My husband is not thrilled about having to go back in there and take it all apart again, it was a challenge cramming the module and the HUGE wiring harness next to the head unit!

I did notice that if I was in park and selected to view video from anywhere within the TV mode that the picture is nice and clear and BRIGHT. Once I go into the reverse it goes dark! Likely NOT a camera issue. So now I'm researching and finding other people having the same issue. I will be returning the CHR550, I did not order from Coasteltech. I think lots of problems are coming from that model, the CHR550. And to be honest the ipod integration really didn't do much for me... It sometimes doesn't even connect when I plug it in. I will go with either lockpick v5 or more likely Nav-tv since they have better customer service and I don't really find many complaints about that unit. I am very disappointed though

Yeah its a camera that you can hook up to the lockpick and view the screen on the factory 430n etc. The sweet thing is the camera has a SD card that records video in 35min increments HD quality. Kinda kewl if you get in an accident or go offroad and want to record video. The one i'm looking at has a GPS installed in the camera that will record your speed and location like a security camera, also has a built in mic. Just looking at the camera's on ebay and debating which one i want.

jsb432 Thanks for that feedback LBrito, very interesting. You're certainly right, it could be a headunit issue. The odd timing of it happening to both my brother and me at around the same time, and the fact that it reset after disconnecting/reconnecting definitely made me think the lockpick was involved.

Then again, I suppose the same theory of it being some sort of firmware issue that resolves itself by pulling all power from it could also apply to the headunit. Or it could be completely something else. The fact that you removed power (fuses, battery) and it didn't solve it kind of puts me back in the totally f'n confused camp.

I suppose electrical gremlins aren't the sole province of German cars (a la my Audi and BMW, which are rolling short circuit factories)....so I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.
