Metonymy How hard is it to access the jack with the hard top on? Anyone have photos of it installed with the hard top still on the Jeep? I'd love to see how it looks.

JOCJK I like that conduit clamp solution for ease of install and cost but I really like the location on that SWAG/Dominion mount. Really out of the way, won't interfere with sleeping in the back, loading bikes, gear etc but worth $100? I guess thats the million dollar question. Maybe I'll go with the $8 option first and see how frustrated I get. Thanks for the ideas guys. Good stuff in there

DJL2 I looked at a bunch of a Hi-Lift mount options for my 48" jack. In the end, I went with the Jeep SWAG/Dominion mount. It does a couple things I like:

1.) Keeps it inside my vehicle where it's a) harder to steal and b) out of the elements

2.) It keeps it out of my line of sight and out of my cargo area so that it's completely unobtrusive/transparent to my day to day driving.

Did I need to remove my hard top and tap a couple holes to install it? Sure, but honestly that's pretty easy work assuming you have an extra set of hands around for the top. The brackets for the Dominion mount have an angled portion that mates with the holes you tap and they flex as you bolt them up so you get a good fit even if you don't tap straight as an arrow - pretty clever design.

Rooster76 I would be afraid with that one your looking at that it would catch a tree branch.

I have been looking into where to store Hi-Lifts lately. I have heard that 48" ones will fit under the rear seat of a 4-Door. JeepSwag makes a cool mount for the unlimited's. It keeps it very high and out of the way. Hi-Lift Jack Mounts - JeepSWAG

Personally (with a 2dr in particular) I think the best option for a 48" is using 3.5" U-Bolts (or muffler clamps) to the rear on the roll-bar. Then you can add a wing nut and some rubber washers. You can see some of those here Cheap hi lift jack mount

The 60" seems to fit on the hood the best.

JOCJK Yup, figured that. Well anyone come up with a simple DIY version of the interior cage mount? I really dont want to spend the cost of the jack just for a mount.

Wrong Way Hal kbwwolf is right. My 2012 owners manual states that the TOTAL weight on the spare tire mount "cannot exceed" 50lbs. Just the jack and tire will probably put you over the weight limit.

A 48" Hi Lift jack alone weighs almost 30 lbs. Five gallons of gas weighs 41 lbs, without the can. Add an oversize tire and mounting plate and you're gonna be well over 100 lbs.

I wouldn't run that on the stock tire carrier.

I eventually moved the jack inside, and like you, it's only there when I go off-roading.

I mounted the back to the bumper using the 4XRAC brackets from HiLift. It was a real PITA getting the nuts and washers on under the bumper.

Another Hi Lift Mounting Question

I've read through a ton of previous threads on this topic and most of them spin off to the argument of keeping your jack outside vs inside. I understand the benefit of storing it inside the vehicle, especially since I live in an area that lots of environmental variables but I am still contemplating going with the outside route and only putting it when going offroad.

Does anyone use this product?

And if so do you use it with a stock rear tire carrier? Seems like the mounting plate, full jerry can and Hi Lift would be pretty heavy as I already have a 285 tire on the stock carrier. Wouldn't adding all this stuff to the current carrier be the equivalent of carrying a 35+ tire in terms of weight and bulkiness?

Also while we're here, has anyone made their own interior cage mount without requiring drilling? (i saw one who had to drill into the bars) Seems like $84 is excessive for what looks like it could be picked up at a hardware store for $20 or so.
