|Jeffola||I would remove the sun sensor and spray it with some smoke plastic dip. It would be removable and it would obscure sunlight from the sensor and make the threshold brighter.|

Auto Headlights to Turn on Dash Lights
I have the Auto Headlights option on my 2014 Safari JKU, but the engineer that designed it lived somewhere that has no clouds or overcast - only direct sunshine. He/she was way too frugal in setting the sun sensor. I live in the gray, rainy Northwest and there are many days I wish the auto headlights would turn on and they don't - other posters mention this as a problem too. I owned a 2007 Audi Q7, and 2012 BMW X5, and those auto headlights worked fine.
I want the headlamps on so others can see me, but just as important, I want the dash lamps to go on so I can read the gauges - like the speedometer.
Between the heavy window tinting and the analog gauges, it is hard for me to read the speedometer unless the dash lamps are on. Otherwise, I can't read the gauges at all unless it is a bright day and the sun is shining in just right and my sunglasses are off. It's not often all three conditions are met.
Does anyone know how to set the dash lamps to be on whenever you are driving, regardless of wether the head lamps are on? I guess I could turn the head lamps to on (non-auto mode) and let them go off on their own - but if it takes more than a few seconds, people will be alerting me that I left my lights on.
Once I get this figured out, I'll move on to finding a way to get Auto Temp to actually keep the car comfortable.

PM'd you Jeffola
Thanks for doing the legwork on this mod!
For anyone wanting to do this, there is no need to remove the steering wheel to change the headlight stalk.
You only need a Torx T15 long handle screw driver for the three (3) torx bolts on the bottom cover and a Philips Head screw driver to remove the stalk.
And FYI, I have a company 2012 Jeep Liberty with Auto Headlights and I swapped it in and it works. Seems Jeep/Chrysler used this switch in a few vehicles, may be a cheaper source than the dealer too (ebay)

Nice. PM'd you. I'm in Texas, but I will do one-day UPS shipping there and back to avoid long downtime. I guess I'll need to plan it around some vacation time.
This just goes to show you how pathetic Chrysler is when we have to go through a 3rd party to have OEM functionality.

|Jeffola||Before you ask, the guy is an engineer for a company that works with many manufacturers to provide automotive computer based performance enhancements, I don't want to say whom, but he did say I could refer WF members to him for this service.|
|09-25-2014 05:04 PM|
OK, we have success!
Thanks to the guy (PM me for contact info) who does (and apparently is approved to do so) engineering level programming, he plugged in using factory software and made the change. He can do it locally in Broward County FL, and you can ship him your TIPM and he can do it on the bench and ship it back. (Yes your vehicle is a door stop until it gets back).
Either way, the cost was a little over $100 and totally worth it. Between parts and programming I have factory auto lights for less than $200.
I AM HAPPY!

|All Terrain JK||Jeffola, if the programming is successful could you post a parts list with P/Ns? Also a brief description of the hardware install. Thanks|

Sub'd - I miss my auto headlights, seems like a fairly reasonable project if we could find a tuner with the ability to select that option. I'm crossing my fingers for ya Jeffola!

So the dealer said no, they can't add a sales code. I called them after starting a thread on the programming assist. i also followed up with Chrysler, I might was well have asked my dogs to do it, at least they lick me to show compassion.
Through another forum, I found a guy who knows a guy who..... Either way, he gave me someone very local who can do it. Will charge me $125 to make the necessary changes. I am going on Thursday to have it done. Hope all goes well. Of course, I will keep you all updated.

Well here I go, the parts came in today and I installed the parts in just a few minutes. I drove to the dealer and they plugged in.......
Thats all, they cannot add the code LMG because it not on the build sheet.
There was a post on another forum, I have PM'd him and am waiting.
BTW, I called Chrysler, what a bunch of lazy morons, they said no.

The larger question is what is that ability referred to? My belief is that the sales code is the difficult way, the easy way is menu entry, select option and enable/disable, i believe the three letter code is "Special programming"
Your mileage may vary.

|cgdc||You are correct the sales code is LMG. I found in another forum a thread that was talking about it and they found out that Chrysler removed that code from the STAR scan tool at the dealers. You have to find someone with programming ability (not sure what that means) to have it added. Here is the ling to the thread KevinMac's Semi-Budget Build...Project Deathstar - Page 16. Post 153 talks about Chrysler removing the capability. The entire thread is actually very good. I checked with a couple dealers around here and they have verified the info.|
|09-15-2014 07:26 PM|
According to the thread (or legend if you prefer). Yes you need the multifunction switch as well as the sun load sensor.
Have the dealer program sales code LMG and you should have auto headlights.
My parts are on the way. Will be here Thursday or Friday. The dealer is interested in trying this out.
I'm on it.
You can call me lazy as well, I am ok with it, 23 years on my knees crawling through smoke and fire, yeah sure I deserve to be lazy.
I'm 68 yrs old. Short (or long) term memory isn't my best feature. Wish I had power windows too. I'm 6'5, 308 and there's not a lot of room when I need to roil the windows.

I just went to the dealers websight and did a "live Chat". The chat person is supposed to get back to me thru email on whether they install it or not and if so the cost.
I'm 1 of those lazy idiots (from the name calling above) that like them. not because I'm too lazy but because my last few cars have had them (and P.U.s) and I have a tendency to forget to put them on when it rains or just at dusk. Both a law here in Missouri

Yes, the sales code "LMG" is "Automatic Headlamps" (see p. 148 of 213 of the PDF).
I'm not sure the Sales Code matters. What they would do is hook up the scan tool and then look for the option to initialize or flash, which would be automatic headlamps (if that's possible in the first place).
|09-15-2014 04:08 PM|
I called local dealer, they feel very excited about the chance to do this.
So they said the tool is Witech, but they question the code LMG, how do I (we) verify this code? Does anyone have an "option code listing"
|09-15-2014 03:20 PM|
|Jeffola||Parts ordered, will be here by weeks end, I will call my dealer and inquire about the flash of LMG.|

Is the install of the combo switch difficult? Pulling the airbag makes me nervous!
