Triple88a as much as i like the tire out back, i'm afraid of it getting cough somewhere since its like an anchor in trailville.

orange05tj heres my 33 on stock carrier. My tailgate is starting to bend on the top and the upper hinge is going to hell. It also drops when I open it. Save for a carrier.

orange05tj No. Thats only if your using stock rims with wider tire. I have one laying in my basement and when I get around to it, its going in the garbage. It still adds the weight on the tailgate.

USBrit My spare 33" just rests on my bumper which helps to take the load. I have not had any problems with my tail gate yet.

emev0l I've seen a lot of people rock a 33 on the back, you can run a 33 in the stock location, depending on the width of the tire and offset of the wheel you may have to get a bracket. It is a much better idea to get a new rear bumper/tire carrier, there not real cheap but most of them have options like tow hooks which never hurt.

I'm actually looking for a real nice one myself, if anyone personally owns one and likes it or dislikes it let us know which one and why.

Here's a link to a tire carrier shootout, it's worth taking a look at: http://www.jpmagazine.com/techarticl...ut/index1.html

Triple88a most tire carriers come as a bumper/carrier combo and they run from about 400 together and up.

jtalar depending on what configuration you want, are you eventually going to replace the rear bumper? Hi-lift jack mount? jerry cans? If you just want a oversize rear tire carrier, your looking at anywhere between $200-400 depending on the quality

Jkwillis15 How much would it cost for me to buy a larger tire carrier?
11-24-2008 03:37 PM
jtalar The stock carrier is too weak for a 33" tire, I have seen ALOT of people do it though as it will fit, however like i said it is too weak, i would hate to be the guy who mounted a 33" tire on the stock carrier and soon after watch it bounce down the freeway from my rearview mirror, but that's just my opinion.

Spare tire carrier

Im eventually going to get 33's to go on my wrangler. I want the spare tire to match all the others but ive heard that the stock spare tire carrier can only hold up to a certain size. Can it hold 33's or is that too large.
