I also used the Rustoleum High Heat paint and it came out great. This paint is rated to 2,000 degrees where the grill paint is rated to around 500 degrees. I got the paint in the automotive department at Walmart for around $7. I cleaned the muffler good with a damp towel and let it dry for a few hours then I sprayed a few coats. That was 1 month ago and it had held up great so far.

I used 2000 degree VHT Flameproof paint (was available at the auto parts store). Reviews online are mixed regarding all the high temp paints available, but the 2000 degree stuff has more good reviews than any of the other lower-temp options. Will see how it holds up - I painted the exhaust/cat/muffler pipes on the Jeep itself (anything visible from the sides or back or underneath). Just finished the curing process. Went on super easy, only used 1 can, kept the coats relatively light.
Honestly, the reason I did this project as because I already started seeing a lot of rust on the exhaust pipe hangers (despite this being a new vehicle) and it was really bothering me. I've noticed that for some reason even 1 or two year old jeeps have a lot of rust on their exhaust systems , and I don't want that.

I did this with the 1000 degree stuff...took about a can to do it well. Looks great.
When I went to the local hardware store rather than the auto parts place, the picture on the can had a grill rather than headers and a temp limit of 1200. I got one can just in case, but plan to head to the auto parts store to get the "same" can I used if it is available.
This is a super simple thing to do. Agree, makes it look much better.

I know this is an older thread but does anyone know if the 500 degree rustoleom paint will be ok on the muffler? The 500 degree paint I have in old ford blue is engine paint so I'm hoping the muffler doesn't get that hot.

|mcgee10||When I first read this post I thought why would anyone paint the muffler how bad could it really look. I never see it. Sorry guys. I went and looked from the rear of my jeep and it does look wrong. So I washed it and wiped it down with acetone and painted it with flat engine paint. It really looks better. Thanks guys.|

|BADBREW||Finally got it done. Chose to drop muffler instead of painting it still hanging. Muffler drops out real easy...A Rachet w/ 5/8" socket, large screwdriver and a light grease on the rubber grommet hanger makes the muffler drop (and install) much easier and prevents potential splitting or tearing of rubber grommet hangers.|
