Topic Review (Newest First)

The stud does come off with some effort (confusing they would send a new one if the old one does not come off??). I jimmy'd the threads on the old one trying to pound it out (even with a board) so I had to replace it anyway.

I have everything installed now. This should have been so easy but two things happened. The first is the existing hardware was hard to remove (the stud that connects to the steering arm). Instructions would have helped me know how (or if) to remove that. Sending a new one implies I replace the old one. I pounded on it for awhile which ruined the threads and finally broke it free which cut the back of my hand to the bone.

The second problem is the manufacturer sent the wrong nuts for the threads of the new stud (bolt) that connects to the steering arm. That was very frustrating. I went to the hardware store to get the correct nuts and now everything is on. It may be my imagination but it does seem more stable now.

Rubicon Express sent the wrong nuts and no instructions. If I would have not known better and forced it I would have ruined the stud (bolt assembly) that came with the kit. The nuts will start on the threads but will not fit the threads. The difference is metric vs. English or fine thread (20 turns/inch) vs. coarse thread (13 turns/inch).

So now this is documented for the record.

Hopefully the Rubicon Express 2" BB lift kit will go better. Looks like I have all the right parts and some instructions (and God Bless you all some decent instructions on the Internet).

I am not a professional mechanic but I'm not a complete idiot. I do have bad luck though...

ohsixlj That stud on the stock steering dampener is not supposed to be removable. When purchasing a new one u should make sure it is for a tj specifically to ensure it includes the correct hardware. The generic or one size fits most dampeners usually do not include the stud. Sorry

chetzki Finally broke the existing stud loose. I think they sent the wrong nuts. They simply will not fit the threads on both sides of the new stud that mounts the shock on the steering cross member. So to the hardware store.

This is a 2005 Wrangler X.

This is what I am installing that should be simple:

Need some help please

So I ordered Rubicon 2" lift BB with shocks and a replacement steering stabilizer shock. The stabilizer came in today and should be a very simple replacement. I can NOT get the old hardware off. This kit from Quadratec came with NO instructions and should be very simple. I got the stab shock off but can not remove the old stud and can not get the nut on the old stud on the right hand side (facing JEEP). I also can not get the nuts on the new stud if I even could not get the old stud out. It starts but does not turn. Acts like its English vs Metric or corse vs. fine threads.

Anyone have experience with this? I got the all the nuts off the existing assembly and removed the old stab but can not get the nut back on the existing stud and can not get the existing stud off the right hand side and can not get the new nuts on the new stud. What am I supposed to do from here!

Frustrated in TX,
