Also as mentioned above, so long as no one removed it, your axles have a steel tag bolted onto the differential covers at their 9 o'clock position which will have your ratio embossed into it. The ratio won't show a decimal point so for example if you have 3.73, it will say "3 73". Depending on which axle you look at, it may show a ratio like 3.74 since the front and rear axle ratios of non-Rubicon Wranglers are .01 off from each other.

|Shoe||I looked at a gear chart a while back, and 4th gear with 33's ends up about the same as 5th gear on stock tires. You basically end up with a 4 speed with a fairly high 1st gear. If it's not too hilly where you live it will be ok but not ideal.|

|Wattapunk||OP, yours should be 4.10's. Should be fine running 32's, 33's do-able but probably pushing it.|

|H3llman||does anyone know what the 6 cyl 4 l tj comes standard with? i put 33's with a 3" suspension lift on it over a year ago and haven't really noticed a difference, besides my speedometer being off. But honestly i didn't know anything about gear ratio's and it sounds like i could be flucking up my jeep. it has been driving great and i haven't noticed a difference but if theres something i should know then, well.. HELP!!|

|2JeepsThatRun||4.11s in all TJ 4 cyl and you want 4.88s for 33s and a 4 cyl/5 spd 4.58 for 4cyl/auto or 4.10s if its a 6 cyl. You need the higher rpms in a 4 cyl to keep up on the highway and still have fifth gear|

|4Jeepn||Not sure what your budget is, but if you can look for a 6cly, and one with a rear dana 44 axle..has square metal fill plug in the diff. this will solve two major problems the 4cly has, power and will give you a better rear axle for the bigger tires.|

|DevilDogDoc||Should be 4.10 unless it was changed but you probably wont like it....|

|Decker||Thanks, but I haven't bought it yet and forgot to check! In the meantime, do all of them have stock 4.10s?|

|jeepwayoflife||Look on the little metal tab on the rear or front axle covers. It should say on there|

1998 TJ 4 cylinder Gear Ratios?
I'm possibly buying a 4cyl 1998 TJ, its a 5 speed manual. I'm planning to lift it 3 inches and install 32's (possibly 33's) as soon as I buy it. I'm wondering if anybody on here could tell me what the gear ratio is?
From what I understand, ALL 2.5L 4cylinder TJ's have stock 4.10s. If the 98 does have 4.10's, lifting it will be fine. If not, I may have to reconsider.
So! Could anybody tell me if all 2.5L Tj's do have stock 4.10s?
