Toole I've learned that if there is a barcode in the corner of the window, I don't wave at them anymore cuz I never get anything in return from the rentals. Lol

bobthetj03 When I visit the islands, I usually rent a jeep. I wave at all jeeps no matter what. Most of the time I usually get stink eye back in return, lol!

mister_hudson Yesterday I drive past at least 20 Wranglers and about 75% were on it - probably the best day yet...

wmwhitey LOL I posted about this about a year ago when I got here also. AND HEY HAWAIIJOSH I have the stock 16's rite now but always wave. I just have not built the new jeep yet the one I traded in has been all over the island with ease.

HawaiiJosh Plus on Kauai we know just about every 4th driver we pass so waving is pretty normal jeep or not

mister_hudson True! Those are the exception - kinda easy to spot. They're the ones that are way too clean and still have the mini stock tires... HA!

For the most part any that are modified or older models pay their respects...

I think the dealerships need to do a better job of educating the new owners into the culture that we have! Not only the wave but the 4x4 basics and respect for the land...

I say if the dealership or person you bought your Jeep from didn't mention any of the above you have the right to go back and smack them!

HawaiiJosh The major reason is most of the jeeps here are rentals being driven by tourists. And if they're not, they don't know that you aren't. I only wave to jeeps I'm sure aren't rentals.

The wave...

I'm sure everyone here understands the wave. I've been on island for about a year and am shocked at how few people here return it. There is a huge number of Wranglers on the roads here but I'd say only about 50% actually return the wave. What's the deal? On the mainland 99% of drivers know and return it - why is it not the same here?
