Not that I have a vote, but, that makes it an 11 hour trip for me. I'd have to think about that.

sevenservices Not for sure? I know they run through State Land. Do a search on Google Maps for Rush Lake near Caseville MI. Thats where we went back to about 1/2 way through the trip in the woods.

heres a pic... https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&s...-8&sa=N&tab=wl

I used to squirrel hunt back there all the time w/my Dad. Years ago they didn't have all the side trails and challenges blocked off like the do now.

phittie1100 So is it basically a county seasonal road, township road...? I have not done any exploring in the thumb, and that is not a sign we typically see on state forest roads or county seasonal roads up north.
10-26-2012 09:52 AM
sevenservices its nice, awesome after a snow storm or ice storm. Tire tracks will pack it, but its not regularly plowed. Some areas are, but not the unimproved parts...
10-26-2012 09:39 AM
stans1stjeep Curious, what's Sand Road like in the winter? As you said, for this tour Sand Road is just a two track thru the woods right now.
10-26-2012 08:10 AM
sevenservices Sand Rd., Heading out of Caseville Konkey Rd. and Sand Rd. Split. Head east, about 1m past the houses is one when entering the two tracks. Then, a little ways out closer to Oak Beach is another one in-between maintained parts and non-maintained parts of Sand Rd.

The signs were all over the place. At the entrance to each of the roads we were on. Chris was the event planner and can give you specifics.

I have a lot more, just too much to load here. Did anyone get a picture of the warning signs at the entrance to Sand Road. I thought they were cool, just didn't have the presence of mind to take a picture.

sevenservices Here is some updated information for Sunday 10-21-2012

Late Fall Color Tour (Tip of Thumb Michigan, Caseville/Port Austin)
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2012 1pm-4pm(ish)
Difficulty Rating: MILD/MODERATE (Mostly Sand Roads)
ORV Sticker required: NO

Caseville MI. We will start and end at this same location in the event there are vehicles to stay behind.

1:00pm Meet in the empty parking lot, East side of Independent Bank in Caseville. Address is; 6727 Main Street, Caseville, MI 48725

1:30pm Depart out of Caseville, head East throughout several two track unimproved sand roads. Follow sand roads all the way to Port Austin. Break in Port Austin at “The Fireside Inn” then travelling the water front back along M25 to Caseville. There are several areas we will traverse with sand however, airing down tires should not be necessary. This is a ThumbJeeps.com event however other off road equipped vehicles are encouraged to participate. No one is left behind, if they want to line up and run with the caravan they are more than welcomed. (There are some areas of moderate sand where greater clearance may be required. Due to this we recommend only Jeeps and Trucks attend. No need to air down and probably won’t even need 4wd. (However, it is not recommended for cars with low ground clearance)

The tour will last approx. 3 hours

Note: Half of the trip is in the woods so you may want to head out of Caseville with at least a half tank of gas.

Items you will want to bring:
1. A CB Radio to keep in touch with the group. (More important for leader and tail) Or, FSR (Handheld Family Service Radio)
2. Camera
3. Water, Snacks and/or other drinks.
4. Money for Fireside Inn if you want to eat, drink or pick up a T-Shirt

sevenservices Yes, Sunday October 21'st meet at Independant Bank parking lot, downtown Caseville (right in the center across from the grocery store on M25) at 1:00pm.

This will be the late fall Caseville Run. We will run from Caseville all the way through Sand. Rd. to Port Austin then back along the waterfront. Probably stopping off by port austin for a break at the Fireside Inn. Looks like we may get quite a turnout on this one, lots of Jeeps planning to come. Sand Rd. is really cool, its an unimproved sand two track running through the woods. A few miles is normal dirt road but there are several sections of nice woodsy two tracks.
