smitty141 I had a local stereo/alarm shop install a Compustar system on my 2013. So far it has worked perfectly. Once in awhile the little security light on the right side of the dash will be on when I get in. I just touch the brake, Jeep dies and I restart with the key. Happens maybe 10% of the time..

Best part it was only $285. installed. I work at a Power Plant, and before I head to the locker room I look out the window 500' away and I start my Jeep. 10 minutes later I am headed out to a warm or cool Jeep. I also park in a garage, in the morning I just raise the door and push the magic button. Time I pack my lunch and pour a cup of coffee the Jeep is ready to go..

As I parked out of site and at a great distance at work I got the model with 900' range and two way fobs. That way the fob would alert me when my Jeep started and give me a running time count. I could increase the range by holding the fob to my chin and pressing the start button. No kidding!
Crap I want one for my manual but that seems to be quite the procedure. Are they all similar to this?

Same thing here, my 2013 had the remote start installed and I wanted 4.10's so I went with it, I use it all the time and I love starting it when my mother is near...to see her jump and grab her chest is priceless....Yes I am JUST this immature.

Jeep45 Just purchased an after-market Compustar remote start from local retailer. So far...fail, system sets off panic alarm, as well overheat and low tire warning lights intermittently display. The seems to require a call to the manufacturer in AK, more to come!

jcfjeep Looks like the Mopar part number for the 2013's is finally available. Not sure what's different than the 2011-12 part, but whatever it is, it's apparently worth $2 more. Dealer's got mine on order!

I leave the house at 5am every day and it would be nice to have it all warmed up before climbing in on a 20 degree morning.

805lraquino74 My JKU came with remote start and I thought it was funny at first and I would have never paid to have it installed, but im glad I have it now. Used it a couple times in the morning to defrost windows. Now its just part of my morning. Cant wait to use it in the summer. No more waitting for a/c to kick in.

I've never been more than 100ft from mine.
I think of it as....the more range the better. Mostly so that it can be started through the 6th floor window of an office building when the vehicle is sitting in a parking lot in bad weather.

azjosho Thanks guys. Just ordered a new Sport S Unlimited from the dealer and they are going to install it for me before I pick it up. It's the one thing I really wish we had on our current car. Definitely a first world problem, but it sucks running outside to start the car 10 minutes before I leave for work in the winter.

It will work on a Sport if you have the things mentioned above (power group with keyless entry and auto)
10-26-2012 01:24 AM
ohioviper You have to have the convenience group
(Power Convenience Group $ 795
Auto Dimming Mirror with Reading Lamp
Power Heated Mirrors
Power Windows with Front One-Touch-
Down Feature
Power Door Locks
Remote Keyless Entry
Security Alarm )
and the auto transmission.

ohioviper Its the same kit for 2011-2013.
10-19-2012 04:47 AM
jwilson2598 Pretty sure I've seen a couple people install the kit in a 13 with no problem.
10-18-2012 11:57 PM
jdambm will this work on a 13? I had heard it was not available yet.

You can if you find an installer that will do it. On mine, when I turn off the key, it keeps running until I either open and close the door, or hit the brake. The idea being you can't get out of the Jeep while it is running and in gear, so the chances of starting it, with it in gear, are reduced.

Notice I say REDUCED, because there is no 100% way to prevent someone leaving it in gear and it starting... which is a problem... one that most installers don't want to deal with.

If I had an auto, I'd get the factory kit. Maybe a bit more, but it's always way easier, and down the road when it stops working, aftermarket units are a pain. They have to chop and splice, and that's a recipe for problems.

Call around to a couple more dealers and price it.

Yeah, the option for integrated remote start didn't start until 08.

steed77 Yep that OEM kit works fantastic
10-18-2012 04:32 PM
ohioviper The kit I got off Ebay is an OEM Jeep/ Chrysler kit that includes 2 new keys with the remote start button that the dealer will cut and program when they do the install .It is exact same one they put in at the factory.

panthermark ^That is good.

Very interesting....

MOPAR 82209982AH - MOPAR® Remote Start Installation Kit for 07-10 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK with Automatic Transmission - Quadratec

When you look at the pictures from your kit, and from the Quadratec kit, the "pictures" are of the same red jeep....but one hand has a key fob, while the other hand has an actual key.

The pic of the actual package includes two key fobs, not keys.

Moral of the story? Triple check what you are getting.

I got ripped... But it will be nice to start up the Jeep on really cold days while I'm still in the office. By the time I get to the parking lot, it will be good to go.

I believe the factory install has the start button on the keys, while the MOPAR kit uses a key fob.
It's good that I bought the Mopar factory kit. Came with 2 new keys that have the remote start button integrated. This is the exact kit I bought:

2011 2012 Jeep Wrangler Remote Start by Mopar | eBay

$221 to my door. Dealer charged $230+tax to install including cutting/programming the new keys.

They had it shopped and it showed up in 3 days. And they're an actual CJD dealership, so as long as it's installed at a dealership, it has the warranty attached. My dealership wanted to see the "dealership receipt", so I chatted with them on eBay first to ensure they would send one. They did, no questions asked. My dealer was happy and was surprised at how much money I saved. (My dealer wanted $243+tax for the kit... I saved about $42 going online.)

No extra fob or anything, and still way cheaper than aftermarket options while still having factory warranty covering it. All good things IMO.
