Unlimited How funny, this is the second time today this question has come up....

I flat tow my '04 behind my motorhome. Part of the towing proceedure is to put the key in the ignition and turn it one "click". this will unlock the steering wheel, but it will not log miles on the odometer. You don't have to disconnect anything...... Make sure you follow the "towing proceedures" in the manual when you flat tow your Jeep.

650RedRider Thanks for all the help guys! I see the same question was asked earlier in the year by Dale Cooper with some equally good advise. Guess I should have scrolled down further proir to posting! Duh! Thanks again for the help.

650RedRider How about the accessory position to unlock the steering for towing?

05GT-O.C.D. So, it would normally log the miles even w/ the ignition off and in neutral?

jpdocdave not as long as you don't turn the key on with the wires disconnected.

650RedRider Thanks! I'll take a look and give it a try. It won't give any error messages during a smog check will it? Like that the speedo has been tampered with?

If it's like a 99 TJ - There's an electrical wiring harness plug on the back of the tranny. It's got a red clip on it. You can remove the red clip and unplug the harness. It won't log the miles. Just be sure to plug it back in before you're up and running.
