hgoodwiniii Hi all. I am looking for someone to help put a stock cam in my 1997 4.0L Grand Cherkoee. No luck in the ZJ forums. Does anyone know any do it yourselfers in the Houston, Texas area that I can contact for hire that may interested? Thanks.

tailhole Two things I dont like about the pistons is they don't have pressure oiled pins and they use the 5/64 rings instead of the 1.5

tailhole What sucks about this 4.6 I'm trying to build now. Is I keep selling my blocks I have. But I rather have the cash. Still got to make a living.

tailhole It's there ICON brand.
It's a forged piston not that other crap with the KB name.

I have used this brand a few times they seem fine. I will put then at the same level as like probe. But for a shelf piston and for no more than what I need them for there more then nice enough.

I'm work out doing another that looks like I'm going to offset grind the crank .090 and use a 2in small G Chevy rod at 6in long and bore it 4in.

The only thing is, looks like im going to have to put 6 flange sleeves in it.

Gunner Are those KB's. That looks like a nice piston. Gas expansion cut on the ring land and the pin is not in the oil ring. Full quench band too. Been waiting for you to post more goodies.

Higany8 Hey guys, I just purchased a 99 Sport 4.0 with manual. what can I expect? Any major issues? what should I check for and what should I replace? I do immediate oil changes on every car I buy but this is my first jeep. Thanks.

Gunner Nice. I saw some flow numbers for a 2.5 stroker head with 2.02 and 1.6. Intake number was 300 cfm. Didn't give any lift or other numbers. I have heard that the 2.5 is based on the 4.0 head. Man I miss this stuff.

Gunner I miss the high tech stuff more than anything else. In that respect retirement sucks. I loved to go into the shop and do little things to my motors late at night. My wife would come in at 3am and find me porting a manifold. LOL those days were fun.

You got me thinking of my first rebuild. And it was a lawn mower. I must have been 12-13 years old. No telling how much money I made with it on weekends and summer time

Gunner You can have a lot of fun for not a lot of money. Start easy. Rebuild a lawn mower engine. Learn the basics. If you have the basics you can learn the rest as you go.

Thank you. All those fancy tools with analog dials look $$$. I want to do a rebuild for fun and education but don't want to invest in a lot of tools only used once or twice.

tailhole I don't use Teflon anymore. They were the latest and greatest years ago.

Valves need oil.
Just like oil restricters, I don't like them or use them. I never understood why you would want to cut oil off to the heads.
What's funny, and I got in a heated confertaion with a big engine builder, is

Why cut the oil down to the heads then run a oil line to the head to spray oil on the springs. He said cus the spring would get hot and the EXTRA oil helped cool it.

I said. No shit? Then I couldn't stand it anymore. What a dumb ass. Haha

Gunner HAHA I was just gonna say that is one serious spring compressor. I had a smaller one. Had the tips all welded for strength. It was as ugly as a cows backside but it worked sweet. How much retainer to seal do you have when you do a high lift cam? I like the seals you chose. Vitons? They let in just enough oil without starving it long term like the white Teflons do. And it looks like they fit the stock guide OD.

This one will do 1000lb and it did these springs just fine. Haha
