Jerry Bransford RP Synchromesh would be fine for your NV3550 5-speed transmission but your transfer case requires ATF, with ATF+4 being a very good choice. Mud probably just got into the clutch mechanism. Flushing it out from the bottom with a garden hose while someone works the clutch pedal up/down with the engine running may help.

TC and Tranny making some odd nosies

Hey all,
So Im running a 2000 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 with a 5speed manual transmission,
I took it into the shop today because of some weird noises (thought it was a wheel bearing) but turned out it was coming from the TC and Tranny. it has not been that long since the last change of fluids but i have been doing some light mudding and water forwarding. so (hoping) that i just need to change the fluids. now with that said
1 can i run RP sycromax in both TC and Tranny?
2 does this sound like the problem?
3 should i go ahead and get a Trans Flush? have read on here not to. but in my knowledge it has never been done by me or the PO 185K miles
4 and could the chain in the TC cause this noise it sounds more like a wheel bearing like a light whomp whomp
Thank you!
Chris
