I get crappy mileage
I have K&N Gen.II, stage III chip?, flowmaster exhaust system, and a helix bore throttle body spacer, and I average 16-17. I do about 60% of my driving on the interstate too. I seen no change in mileage after installing all that stuff. I tested every feel up before and after install. Just a hair more power though! 4.0 I6

|mmasuperman12||I drive home on the weekend from college on mostly highway, seems to me takin 'er easy gets me almost 20 mpg, id suggest making sure your spedometer and odometer are correct, i know i going 7mph faster with 31 X 10.50 A/T and i am a tenth of a mile off so in accounting for those i get around 20 with a stock 4 banger.|

|memsimba||I have a 97 2.5ltr wrangler 5speed completly stock and I get 19 in the city and 22- 24 on the highway depending on how i am driving although I was thinking of installing a air intake wich should increase mpg and give me a little more horse power|

|Lakelandwrangler||Well !! I was in awe ! I bought the 4 for light weight. told myself that I should get better Gas mileage. HA.! My x's Suv Rodeo with a 3.2 gets 19 miles per gallon at 75+ miles per hr. my 4 banger with stock wheels got 16 miles per. I am afraid to check it with the 33's but I will..soon|

Not familiar with it. $130 will get you a Pacesetter kit. The big aftermarket Jeep guys carry Pacesetter.
Personally, I just cut the tube running to the airbox and put a K&N on the end. Granted, it doesn't have a heat shield and it sits rather close to the engine instead of down near the front of the Jeep, and the tube isn't high polished aluminum for improved flow. Still beats stock. The money you save can go into quality plug wires.

|97texasTJ||i have a 97 tj..with the 2.5...ive put a throttle body spacer, 4.0L throttle body, header, and flowmaster muffler...with no pipe outta the muffler...im gettin like 13mpg city, or highway!!! runnin stock gears...4.11's i think and 32's....whenever my new gears get here..4.88's ill be runnin 33's....hopefully that will make a difference seeing that im driving cross country in about a month!!!|

|jjohanski||I have a new 2005 Unlimited with hardtop and just logged 18.8 mpg in 2wd at 65 mph interstate driving with rolling hills. This was just past the first 1000 miles of driving. I am interested in hmenker's experience with his new Unlimited. I am thinking of adding the K&N tube intake--similiar to the Rock-It Air. Does anyone think I will improve mileage??|

|1BLKJP||Yup, I have to agree with Buster on this one. If you have a stock jeep you are going to get fairly decent gas mileage, especially if it's a 4 cylinder. You start putting bigger/heavier tires on a 6 cylinder and your mileage is going down hill in a hurry and there's nothing you can do about it.|

|jeepmutt||I drive a '97 6 cyl on 31's, stock gears. I cut the tube from the airbox put on a K&N filter, no heat shield. Hedman headers, Bosch wires, platinum plugs and O2 sensor. I run 14.5-19 mpg consistently for 200+ miles of combined driving. I do NOT take it easy on my Jeep. Closer to 14.5 if I do low gear crawling in the mix. Just around town for a tank of gas I get 15-16mpg. My best was 19.9 mpg measured on only 70 highway miles.|

|Buster||This subject has been discussed on every Jeep forum on the web...pretty much with same conclusion...we drive a brick on wheels...with no aerodynamics to speak of....JEEP does not = MPG...just file it as a "it's a jeep thing", and get on with your jeep life....|

|hmenker||One of the best investments I made was a Rock-It Air tube and filter for my 2.5L engine with the 5 speed manual. If you order it direct from Rock-It Air, it's less expensive than ordering it through Quadratec. It eliminated everything from the filter back to the throttle body and provided marked increase in torque and MPG. I went from 19-20 to 25-26 MPG. It was the best $130 investment I could have made. From previous experience, I can tell you the OEM filter in a new Jeep has a gummy coating on it that really tends to restrict air flow. Replacing it with a new K&N filter provided immediate improvement but nothing like the Rock-It Air. I now have a 2004 Wrangler Unlimited and will be putting one on it. I will also suggest the tube and filter assembly from Rusty's Offroad which is only about $70 and will probably do about the same as the Rock-It Air. Hope this helps.|

well for one the estimates 14 city and 18 highway for most jeeps doesnt account for any stop and starting, which i know i hav eto do alot here in charlotte. to improve gas mileage consider goin from steel to aluminum depending on you postion. I average about 13 mpg driving back and forth from school to my apartment and to work couple days a week. Sucks but thats the price im willing to pay to keep adding heavy steel accessories to protect the jeep from rocks and so forth. I also have a heavy foot all those years of driving a small sports car i guess, but oh well its worth it no matter how much gas goes up.

I have a 2005 Rubicon, completely stock, 4.0 automatic. I drive it easy so the dealer can not acuse me of driving it hard, the reason for the poor mileage. In town I get 10 mpg. Combined 12-14 mpg. Dealer says "Oh well". Any ideas?

MPG 05 limited 6 spd
With my nu 05 Limited, I have gotten 18.66 MPG in town (Denver area) and 22.05 on a trip through Rocky Mountain Nat. Park (Trail Ridge Road) and back to Denver. Two up with traffic. I am hearing from other owners,that they are getting less MPG but, I see "BIG" rubber on their jeeps. I am sure that has an impact on MPG

|khenderson||i've got the 2.5 and 5spd with 30x9.50's. i've added a k&n filter(just the filter) and it's got a throttle body spacer(i'm too lazy to take it off). i get between 18 and 20 and i also drive mostly on the highway. i'm very light on the skinny pedal. just don't be worried about running 60 on the highway with everyone passing you. i basically run where the jeep wants to run; if i'm into the wind, i drive slower; if wind is with me, faster. i just don't push it real hard. that's what i do and i regularly get at least 18 mpg.|

|Steve97TJ||what kind of gas mileage are yall getting with the 2.5L and the 5 speed? i live in a pretty small town and run on the highway most every where i go some in the city...and i seem to get bad gas mileage. can yall give me some pointers on how to get better gas mileage. i drive about 50 miles everyday to and from school. at $3 a gallon it sucks.|

|4Jeepn||Well, I don't think it will make much of a difference, which engine do you have, and what is your current mpg? I would do things like make sure the air in the tires is correct, the air filter is clean, spark plugs etc..|

Has anyone experimented with any mods to increase fuel mileage. What I was thinking was an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to lean out my air/fuel mixture. Any ideas? Comments? Concerns...
