KellyK Here in washington we have no limits on mags and such but there are no full auto. Here is where it gets kinky...lol
You can own a suppresor... you can put it on your weapon... you can NOT fire it. IF an officer actualy see's you cycle a round through it he has to give you a 24hr warning that it is illegal. If he see's you do it again within those 24hrs. Its a 75$ fine...lol
But he cant take the can.....kinky stuff there
And since i live so close to idaho and they are 100% free i can have some other fun toys...lol

HK21E with the "fun" trigger pack...lol

JCS05Rubi Oh, even in MD, where we have the 1 firearm a month, 7 day waiting period, fire shell casing law, mandatory gun lock with new purchase, magazine limits etc. etc. etc. we can still purchase supressors and class III full auto. Gotta pay the federal tax stamp, and waiting 6 months for the background check to clear though. Too bad the cheapest full auto is a $4000 jam-o-matic Mac10.

Good story, glade it turned out okay. Shame your pops didn't catch him in the leg and the police got 'em I don't answer the door without a firearm either. My GF and friends think I am nuts (except one buddy that does the same), but my house has been broken into as well and I am not taking any chances. Especially with the way things are going now, your going to see a lot of this pick up
Yes but there are always people new to the gun world that i try and let them know of the continuing battle to keep our weapons. I also try and spread the word that not all states are anti full auto and silenced.
There are still some "free" states in this country...lol

whiteyj .....and this is exactly why we had better start standing up for our second ammendment rights before some politician decides he knows what is better for us than the founding fathers did.

Glad to hear the story had a positive outcome.

jsut one more.... whitebuffalo, you cant say something saved your life, then not tell the story. so, lets hear it
in my first year of college i was at the bad end of a home invasion. a guy rang the doorbell around 7 in the morning, wearing phone company coveralls. we lived out in the country, didn't lock our doors, left keys in the ignition, etc. so he starts telling me they're working on the lines and blah blah blah is my dog locked up (i had a very protective dog who often kept delivery people at bay, not to mention other animals/critters). so, i say "yeah shes out back".

right about that time, dude produces a pistol and sticks it in my face. i tried to slam the door, but it was an inside opening door and he stuck his boot in the doorway. remember, this is 7 am, and i just woke up, so i don't have shoes on, or even pants for that matter . so, we struggle at the door for a minute (probably more like 20 seconds) and in the struggle he gets the arm with the gun around the door and sticks it in my face. so......with a cold gun to my face, i decided to open the door and invite the guy on inside . he immediately starts asking where the safe is, who's home, etc. i tell him i don't know what hes talking about, we go back and forth. during this whole exchange, my mom hears me and knew something was wrong, so she wakes my dad up. in the meantime, the guy is behind me, arm around me, with the gun in my side, pushing me down the hall. my dad gets up and opens the gun cabinet and pulls out the .45. when the cabinet door opened, it hit the wall and made a noise and the dude starts freaking out. "i'm gonna count to 10 and if you don't show me an open safe i'm gonna shoot this f'er" and such. we go through an eternity of, what i can only describe as a Mexican Stand Off where neither would put their guns down. during the countdown....when he got to two, my dad threw his wallet at the guy and told him that was the only money in the house, but the dude wouldn't let go of me to pick anything up.....SO FINALLY, he starts walking backwards, pulling me with him, gun still BURIED in my side. he pulls out a walkie talkie and tells someone to move the car to the end of the street, then, when he's by the entry hall, he double hand shoves me forward, and hauls ass out the door. the second he shoved me, i tore ass upstairs and grabbed my pistol i kept by the bed, and my dad ran out a side door (the thought being so the guy wouldn't ambush him as he walked out right behind him. we also thought there might be more standing watch outside). when that guy hit the door, he was picking them up and putting them down. i mean, he was hauling some azz. my dad started shooting as soon as he got outside, i came out the door just as the car disappeared behind some brush. we called 911, and ONE sheriff showed up 45 minutes later. the only thing he had to say about us shooting at the guy was that that was a good gun to shoot at them with. LOL. we found where two of the shots went and they were definetly in the zone, but the guy never was caught. it was at least two of them and, we found out later, they had been casing our house (guy up the road had seen their car out there at 4 am that same day, and a couple times before.)

we had a big, antique safe that was my great grandad's in their house. it didn't have any money in it, in fact, we didn't even keep it locked. it was more of a conversation piece thing than a security thing. a couple months before, my parents had contractors out while an AC unit was replaced and we think one of them told someone something about the safe, assuming there was something good inside. none of my friends could believe it happened, since my whole family is pretty well armed and willing to fight when my parents moved, they gave the safe to my aunt.....it didnt seem worth the risk to invite trouble again.

the sheriffs did a half assed investigation at best...they were sure i was a drug dealer and it was "one of my friends".

it was definitely an eye opening experience for a naive country boy. at the house i moved to after that (in the city), i had a shotgun on one side of the door and a machete on the other . even now, i don't open the door to someone i don't know unless i have a gun in one hand. although, at my house now, we always keep the gate locked, so no one should be knocking on the door anyway.

man...its been close to 10 years since that happened, and i still cant believe it happened. sorry for the novel. you asked for it

whitebuffalo 45 long colt with 250 grain jacketed hollow points (reloads) saved my life. it is a beefy round. more oompf than a .45 acp. of course, coming out of a colt single action with a 7 and a half inch barrel didnt hurt for the intimidation factor......
12-15-2008 01:36 AM
Unlimited Yes, you can shoot .45acp in a .45 LC revolver by using a moon clip. However, doing so will eventually damage the cylinder. You really would be better off with a .357 mag if you want a wheel gun. Best policy is to shoot the ammo your gun was designed to fire.

JCS05Rubi .45 Automatic Colt Pistol

.45 Long Colt.

.45LC was designed for revolvers(Back in the day ), .45ACP was designed for 1911 semi-autos. Some revolvers now a days will be chambered in .45ACP, but they are not interchangble. Too different. Think of it like .22short and .22LR or .22magnum and .22LR. .45LC are still nice though, guy brought one out to a lever action shoot this weekend. He said (don't know if this is true or not though, might want to research) .45LC you are better off reloading due to cost, plus it is a REALLY easy cartridge to learn to reload on and play with.
12-14-2008 09:09 PM
chezuki There are moon clips available to chamber 45 acp cartridges in old 45 lc revolvers, but they wouldn't work in the Taurus because it is a 5 shot, not 6.

EDIT: After all that, I still don't know. I found these on Taurus's website...

12-14-2008 09:00 PM
chezuki nope. The 45acp is rimless. Smith & Wesson does make a revolver now that chambers the 45acp, but the rounds have to be loaded into a moon clip to hold them in place in the cylinder.
12-14-2008 08:42 PM
rebelBullDawg325 thanks, those pics really helped unlimited. so it seems obvious that a 45 long could not go into a 45 acp chamber bc its, well, too long. but do you if a 45 acp round could chamber into a 45 long?

question on ammunition

my dad is thinking about getting a "judge" by taurus just for carrying around in the woods. but it fires a .45 long colt. what is the difference in a 45 long and 45 acp round? are they interchangable or not?
