2008jkcop
Camping in east TN in the winter time my buddy and I decided it was a good idea to camp on top of the mountain in the winter time. We were near an old fire tower where some locals go to drink beer and raise hell. We decided to scare them and I let out this deep roar similar to a bear... They get quite and take off. My buddy and I sit by the fire sipping shine and laughing about how we scared them then we hear some large trees limbs break. I would say it was a bear that we called in on us but we didn't hang out long enough to find out. We threw our tents in the back of the truck and hauled ass to get out of there.
that would be Cove Mountain would it not?

Airstreamer67 My eerie moment was deep in the woods. It was a very foggy morning, one of those days that driving on the highway was dangerous.

Anyway, I made it to a spot I had never been before. It looked like a good place for game.

I got out of the Jeep and was slowly stalking down an animal trail when through the fog I saw what looked like a Cross! This stopped me in my tracks, and I kept staring at this thing, wondering if it was just a combination of brush that looked like a manmade object through the fog.

After a couple of moments, I moved closer and slowly realized it was manmade. But here in the middle of a forest!!??

When I got up to the cross, it had a guy's name written on it, along with a date which was a year or so in the past. Kind of like those highway markers where people were killed in accidents.

My guess is that the poor bloke was killed on the site, probably in a deer-hunting accident.

I backed out of there and returned to my Jeep and had a cup of coffee.

deathdealer687 I was out wheeling with a friend and he always would set his wallet wedged between the dash and windshield. Normally it would stay put but this time it flew out and went off the trail. We pulled over and went looking for the wallet. Down about 20 feet below us, under a tree we were slightly above, there was a very wrecked vehicle. It was so crumpled that the only thing that gave us a clue to what kind it was was the J and e from the broken Jeep logo on the back of it. The wallet was sitting on top of it. When he grabbed the wallet, we both heard someone say "Can you help me?" There was nobody around. We searched for about an hour for someone. Once we got cell service, we called the police and reported the vehicle and found out that about 15 years earlier, someone had rolled a Cherokee off that trail and their body wasn't found for 3 days. We haven't been back since.

Here is a TRUE story.

Back in the early 90s I was really down on my luck. No job which means no income. I was falling behind on my car payments. I had to move out of my apartment and was sleeping on my brother couch. Every day looking for work.

You get the picture, Just going thru a very rough time in my life.

I was driving back to my brothers house one afternoon when I stopped off in a large park that had a duck pond, picnic tables and walking paths.
I parked my car and went to a near by picnic table to collect my thoughts.
As I was sitting at the table watching people feed the ducks out of the corner of my eye I see and older gentleman with gray hair walking my way.

It struck me a funny because it's like this guy came from outta no where. Within in a few seconds he was standing in front of me and asked if he could sit down at the table
"Sure" have a seat I said. I looked around and asked "Where did you come from" ?
He chuckled and pointed "from over there" Meaning the walking path I guess.
In and instant I felt as if I have known this old man my whole life.

He asked me out of the clear blue "what was on my mind" and I began to open up to him with a whole list of s**t.

As I was venting to him he stopped my in the middle of a sentence and said I know your troubles and am here to help. Oh really I said !

Then he started quoting bible verses to me in such a way it was as if he could see right thru me.
He touched on every thing that was going on in my life. We must have talked for about 30 to 45 mins.
Touching on every aspect of faith and well being. He did most of the talking I just listened.

He asked if I would pray with him, I said yes and bowed my head.

This man was talking to god like he was his personal assistant. To this day I have never heard anything like it.

When he finished we both stood up from the table and started walking back to my car, I thanked him for his time and all the encouraging words he had to say to me.

I opened up my car door, shook his hand, sat down in the car, closed the door, rolled down the widow, looked out to say goodbye, and he was gone. and I mean gone. I got out of the car, walked around and this guy had vanished.
I keep saying to myself "There is no way he could leave my field of view that fast.
It took a few days for all of this to sink in but I truly believe that I was speaking with and angel.

Bbannongmu In the early 90s Me and my buddy were offroading in central PA near some state game lands when all of the sudden we come out of the woods into a clearing with a bunch, like 6-8 crappy trailers with scary looking dirty, toothless hill people sitting around giving us the evil eye. One of them had a power company truck - not sure it was legit or not. They were squatting on state land and had run their own power lines from the road over 3 miles away. They even had a hand a hand crank water pump. We waived and moved on. They looked like they wanted to kill us. The next time we came back ( heavily armed ) a few months later, they were gone.

Another time in central PA about 30 miles from Altoona we stumbled on a little town of 12 or so old houses with no roads just a dirt path that was mostly hidden by weeds and trees. Probably 5 miles from a major road. The houses were all dilapidated with old cars in front of them. There were old fire hydrants and remnants of sidewalks from a bygone era. Every mailbox on the "town" had the name Schafer on them. I would have liked to see the mailman. We didn't see anyone around and we didn't stay long. Went to look for the town again later but couldn't find it.

Another time I broke a hub while truck camping and got stuck in the hills during the winter. Me and my buddy were the creepy bearded, unkept freezing guys who stumbled on some kid driving solo on an old fire road in the middle if the night and the middle if nowhere for some reason (we never asked) and flagged him down.We were all dirty and cold and he actually asked us if we were gonna kill him when we first invited ourselves in to his truck. He gave us a ride home 20 miles out of his way. We gave him 2 cases of beer and $20.

Big Cole We had an encounter with Sasquatch at night while camped out on a jeep trail near bowman lake off of hwy 20 in norcal. Bastard came into our campsite and ignored all of the meat in our coolers. Instead he grabbed a loaf of bread, undid the twisty tie, and removed every piece of bread without tearing the plastic bread sleeve. When we heard the squatch coming down the mountainside three of is hid in a two man tent. I can still feel the squatch breathing on my face through the nylon tent.

Went back to that area many times after the incident but never had another encounter with squatch.

sgpd1sam In Dumont Dunes,CA I was out with my kid and a friend. It was very late and we had a fire going. Just us, nobody else around. Out of the shadows comes a hooded figure asking for help. We did a double take, thinking we had a ghost on our hands and neither of us believe in them. He stopped outside the light the fire provided and again asked for help. Since we were both cops we didn't spook too easy and told him to come into the light where we could see him. Long haired teen with a hoodie. Turned out his family had got stuck in the sand and he was sent to find some help. We took care of em but it was a little unnerving to have somebody walk out of nowhere when you're pretty sure you're the only ones around.
Another time we were out looking for Charlie Manson's old place near Death Valley. Literally In the middle of nowhere having lunch, miles away from anything, and this solo guy just comes walking on the trail like he was out for a Sunday stroll. He was a journalist from Europe doing research on Manson. He got to a point where his car wouldn't go any further so he got out and walked to the cabin. Miles away! Said he hadn't come to America to get defeated so he took off on foot with no clue of the conditions. We helped him out, too and got him back to his car but it was truly a WTF moment.

ThePeaches289 I was out mushroom hunting a few years back and stumbled upon a rifle on the corner of my property (a road is about 20 feet uphill). It didn't appear to be there long. Kept looking for anything else in that area and I immediately found 2 other guns and a laptop. The laptop still had a sticker with a name and address on it. The sticker was faded but you could still see what it said. Called the local sheriffs office.

When they arrived they ran the name and address from the laptop. The name belonged to a woman who was murdered. Very creepy and chilling.

laredo Two weeks ago i let my 70 lb. Male black lab outside before i went to bed and he came back to the door in a hurry wanting in. It was pretty obvious he didn't like something out there so I grabbed the 12 gauge and stepped outside but didnt hear or see anything so we went back inside. The rest of the night he wouldn't leave my side for any reason, if i stood still he would sit at my feet and watch the doorway of whatever room. I've never seen him that scared before or since. Not sure what it was that freaked him but if my dog doesn't like something, i dont like it.

thewampus97tj Out on the trail in west phoenix me and my buddies come across a guy a few miles in the desert wearing a dress just walking.

Back roads in east TN my buddy and I where riding in his bronco. We came across a fawn(baby deer). We followed him for a little while and we eventually get out of the truck and go up to him. My buddy actually picked him up.

Hunting in AR I was walking the trails and a mountain lion walked right out in front of me. It was pretty cool considering they are not native to AR.

Rev_Don This was probably about 10 or 12 years ago. A friends dad had a house about and hour or so north of where I live, and this friend and I were visiting him and looking for some trails to explore. He already told us about some of the places he liked to take his Jeep, but also told us that he'd recently been ticketed for having an open container in protected marshland, so we decided it would be best to NOT follow his advice. We were just wandering around the area when this friend told me to take a turn down a residential street because he remembered something from when he was a kid riding his bike around. I took the turn he pointed out and followed the street to a dead-end. "OK, now what?" He told me to go around the guardrail, there was a hidden trail. He was right, so I went down it. I don't remember exactly how long it was, but it was definitely under 2 miles to where it ended at a ruined garage. There was nothing left but the foundation of the building, and the burned out shells of a couple of old cars that were inside. Couldn't even make out what kind of cars they were, they were so badly damaged. I'm guessing something from the late 50's to early 60's but they were badly warped and the roofs of both were flattened. We went back a few times after that, mostly to show it to other friends when we were all out there. No idea why there was a lone garage in the woods with no actual road leading to it, just assumed there was a road at one time that was just overgrown, and that the neighborhood was built much later.

Years later, the friends father passed away. I went with him and his brother to help empty the house before it was sold. While we were there, we went looking for that same trail again. We went down the dead-end street, I turned around the guardrail and started toward the trail when the friend stopped me. There was a guy running from the last house on the street yelling at us to stop. He looked pretty pissed as he waved his arms screaming at us. I turned around and went back to where he was. Turns out, the area was no longer public land, he'd bought it a few years earlier. He was totally cool once he saw that we honestly didn't know it was now private land and apologized. We talked for a few minutes, he hadn't seen the garage himself, but knew about it from all of the other people trying to get back there to see it. He said that after talking to the 2of us, he wouldn't have a problem with US going back there since WE were friendly enough and that he didn't think we'd damage his property. But he warned us that an F-250 tried going back a while ago and it was a major operation getting it back out once it got stuck. I thought about pointing out that I wasn't driving an F-250, I was driving a JEEP, but decided to hold my tongue. We didn't take the trail, I could see that he didn't really want us wheeling on his land, but was only offering to be friendly.

strange experience while four wheelin'

This was not so much what we saw but what we experienced on a trail.

One day my wife, Carol, and I were enjoying our Jeep (then a Cherokee) in an area we had never been, exploring vistas where there were hills and valleys with no specific trail to follow. When four wheeling everyone knows that whenever one climbs a hill and reaches the crest there is a point where forward visibility is limited as the vehicle is angled, or pointing upwards, and the view of the trail/terrain through the windshield is obscured by the front of the vehicle. At the crest of such hills the trail/terrain will typically continue uphill, level off to a plateau, or begin a downhill decent. For some time during this outing we had gone over hills where visibility at the crest had been limited. In each case we had continued over these crests and safely maintained our course as we made our way across this hilly terrain.

During one such climb we had almost made it to the crest when I had this feeling that we should stop. I stomped on the brakes and brought the Jeep to a sudden halt. Carol looked over at me somewhat bewildered and asked why we had stopped. I told her that I was not sure why but I wanted to get out and have a look prior to our proceeding. I climbed out of the Jeep and made my uphill climb to the front of the vehicle. As I assessed our situation, I discovered that the front passenger tire was stopped only inches away from a cliff that was at least twenty feet down. This cliff had been hidden from our view. Had we continued we would have without doubt ended up at the bottom of this deep ravine. Had we done so there would have been extensive damage to the vehicle and almost assuredly great bodily harm to ourselves as well.

Has a skull, NOT a ghost story but interesting.....

OK, this did not happen on the trail ....but on the way to one.

Many years ago my wife and I were on the freeway. As we were traveling along there was a truck directly in front of us in the process of changing lanes. I happen to notice that in time with his turn signal there was a corresponding eye being illuminated in a skull attached to the truckís hitch that would also illuminate. This experience happened some time ago and at the time was quite unique so I wanted to share the observation with my wife. I followed the truck in itís lane change and asked my wife if she saw the skull on the back of the truck to which she stated she did. I explained that itís eyes would illuminate whenever the turn signal or brakes were activated on the truck.

We both began to watch for the eyes to illuminate. A short time later the truck began to slow for traffic and both eyes illuminated. I pointed out that the eyes had illuminated as the brakes were applied. She stated that she was watching and saw no such illumination. Realizing that she probably just missed it we both continued watching. A short time later the truck made a lane change. I quickly pointed out the illuminated eye while it was still in action but she saw no such illumination. I again explained how the lights would illuminate in the eye sockets and could be clearly seen whenever the brakes or turn signals were activated and could not understand why she did not see them. We both continued to watch. A short time later the truck made yet another lane change. Again, I clearly saw the eye light up but she did not. Wondering how she could possibly not see what I had clearly observed, we continued to watch the pickup, still in front of us, as it once more began to brake for traffic. Once again I clearly saw both eyes light up and she clearly observed that they did not. At this point both of us are confused and somewhat annoyed that the other did not experience the same results. I had clearly seen the lights illuminate and she had clearly seen that no lights had illuminated.

I asked her to again look at the skull on the back of the truck. She confirmed that she had indeed been watching the skull in the back window of the truck. Then it occurred to me. I had asked her to watch the skull on the back of the truck, which she located and faithfully did. I did not specifically tell her that the skull I was looking at was located on the hitch. As it turned out there was a decal of a skull in the back window that obviously had no lights associated with the eye sockets, in addition there was a skull located on the hitch that had the eyes connected to the wiring of the truck. I saw only the skull on the hitch and she saw only the decal in the rear window. Both of us initially thought that we were looking at exactly the same thing. It was only later that we realized she was watching the skull decal in the back of the truck window and I was watching the skull located on the hitch at the back of the truck. What we both thought was obvious and irrefutable turned out to be quite different than expected.
