Lifter Issue.

Hey Guys,
First off I am new to this forum site, secondly, I am new to mechanical work. Without further a due, I began to replace all 8 lifters on my wrangler. (1991 YJ, 4 cl. 2.5) Finished everything up, and when I started the engine, the
"check engine" light came on, and the engine had a putt putt effect. My question is, what happened? what do I do?
I am certain that I have to explain everything a heck on a lot better, but any advice or ideas, is awesome.

Bryce
