Yep, probably two to three inches higher than stock. I have to have the tilt steering all the way up and the seat all the way back to get in and out of the driver seat. It's a little iritating but the seats are comfortable to sit in, for short trips anyway. I haven't been on a long haul yet so I'm not sure how they'll be for extended seat time.

This is the second Instatrunk I've installed, the first one was in my 87YJ. I left the carpet in on that one and the fit was definitely better. I still got water in the storage area whenever it rained and I had the top off, it soaked in through the carpet. I used a waterproof bag to keep tools and other items dry.

With my 93 I'm planning to put a tray in the cargo area that will elevate whatever is in the trunk about an inch to keep it from setting in water. As you can see from the pics there's a pretty good gap that will let water in the cargo area. As long as my gear isn't sitting in water it should be okay.





As for security I think the Instatrunk is better than a locking console and definitely better than nothing. I don't leave anything of real value in my Jeep but it's nice to have a locking trunk for tools or other small items.

If I had a metal brake and some talent I would have tried to fab my own. If I remember right the trunk cost about $150 or near that. The price for the metal alone would be considerably cheaper and if you already have the tools then fabbing your own would be the way to go. I saw a thread, I think it was in the builders section, where a forum member fabbed his own, it came out nice and I'm sure he saved some bucks.

They're the CORBEAU Baja SS Suspension Seats. The web site description said they fit:

Universal Fit - This part will fit most vehicles. Some universal fit products require that you select a specific size or style, based on the actual features on your vehicle.

Since the description said "universal fit" and there was mention of an adapter bracket I called the distributor and asked a "tech" if I needed the adapter bracket, he said "No". I ordered the seats a month before I started this project and had them sitting around for a while before it was time to install them. When I finally got to the point of installation that's when I found out the seats wouldn't work with my stock brackets. I called the distributor back and ended up ordering the adapters.

Here's a couple pics to show why the seats wouldn't work without adapters. The Baja seats have tabs welded to the seat frame. Directly behind the tabs you can see the screws that come up from the stock seat bracket and bolt to the adapter.





Here's what the stock seat bottoms look like. They don't have tabs and sit flat on the stock seat brackets.



If you're going to order the Corbeau seats and you want to use your stock brackets make sure you get the seats that sit flat on the seat brackets, don't get the universal fit with the tabs. I wish I knew this ahead of time to save myself some grief and a couple dollars. Live and Learn

Lincoln33 Finally getting the seats bolted in, this was easier said than done. I won't go on a long rant but will say I ran into several problems with my "Universal Fit" seats. They didn't work with my stock brackets, as I was told they would. Then I was sent the wrong adapters and had to work an exchange and wait an additional week to install the seats. The new adapters came with mismatched bolts and nuts that didn't work so I had to buy nuts and bolts that would. I'm not going to bash any particular company but man was this frustrating to deal with. In the end I got the seats installed and thats what mattered.

Like everything else I replaced the stock bolts with stainless hex heads.





Here's the seats installed next to the console. Although the console looked too high when I installed it you can see it's the right heighth for the seats that sit higher than stock.







The seats definitely sit higher than I expected and have a reclining lean to the rear that can't be adjusted. Overall they're comfortable to sit in but if you were someone that's a little wide in the hips they might not be comfortable over the long haul. The back seat was a breeze to install but it is a little smaller than the OEM seat.





The last thing to do was reinstall the doors. No fitment problems from the Monstaliner and everything works good.

Lincoln33 I bought a new console and had to do a little extra work to get the fit I wanted. The stock console sat too low and with the new Corbeau seats I knew I'd be sitting higher than stock and I didn't want to have to lean sideways to use the armrest. As you can see from the picture I installed the bracket on the front thats actually supposed to be on the rear of the console.



To make the console sit higher and level I had to make a taller bracket for the rear.





The metal wasn't really that thick but I used heat on it anyway to get a cleaner bend since I don't have a metal brake.



The bends were rounded and a little wider than the stock bracket but they worked.








Without the seats in place the console looked to be too high.





I wasn't sure how it would look so I just took a chance and made my cuts and bends and hoped for the best.





Due to the seatbelts creating a tight fit I had to bend the bracket to the inside instead of the outside. I had to work on this for a while to get the bends even so the bracket would sit level.



Drilled, painted and mounted in place. I ended up moving the console forward after I decided it was taking up too much leg room from the back seat area. Then I noticed it was a little close to the transfer case shifter but I had already bolted the brackets in place. I still haven't checked to see if it's going to be a problem but if it is I'll leave the brackets in place and unbolt the console and slide it back a little.

Lincoln33 Well it took longer than it should have but I finally finished this project and now the Jeeps back on the road. Here's a few more pics showing what I did as I wrapped it up.

I bolted the top hardware back on using stainless hex head bolts. The bolts stand out more than I thought they would but I'll get over it. I thought they were going to get in the way when putting the top up but once the bolts were tightened down everything worked fine. Although the Monstaliner has a thick coat to it there weren't any fitment issues when I reinstalled the hardware.







The old seat belts were in bad shape so I bought some new ones for the front seats, I cleaned up the old belts for the back seat.

Thanks man, the ear plugs worked like a charm. I only had to chase a couple threads but that was due to old age and not from the liner getting past the plugs.

Thanks for the good words. I managed to pull the torx bolts using vice grips, they gave me just enough grip to turn the bolts. As you can see from the thread I replaced them with hex heads.

I'm still working this project but I had a few set backs due to the ice storm that hit Arkansas on Christmas day. I had several trees and bushes damaged and have been doing clean up around the house instead of working on the Jeep. As soon as I get back to the Jeep I'll post some more pics, hopefully showing the finished product.

I'm really impressed by the quality of both your work and your thread.
Right now, I'm preparing the job on my 99 TJ. Removed the seats (front and back), console, etc... Had a hard time with one-two Torx of the rollcage. I stripped them but read that you had to solder a nut over to take them out. I'll give it a try.

Lincoln33 I also got all my seatbelts reinstalled. I did have some trouble there, I couldn't get the belts to unlock from the retracter. I knew I had seen something on WF about it so I had to take a break and do a search to figure out what I was doing wrong. The cause of the problem was me not holding the seatbelts completely level while trying to pull the belt out. As soon as I figured that out no more problems.




The last thing I did was install the Instatrunk. I know some folks don't care for these but I had one on my 87YJ and it came in handy. Since I pulled the carpet from the rear tub area it wasn't a snug fit, I used washers to snug it up and prevent it from bowing out.






I'm gonna try to get the rails for the top bolted on next but it may have to wait until after Christmas.

Lincoln33 I got back to work sorting the rollbar pad issue. Here's the spot I was talking about earlier that should have had a bolt hole already in place.







I guess the manufacturer doesn't punch a hole for you due to different fits for different Jeeps, or maybe in case you don't use the rollbars that attach to the windshield. Either way I needed a hole there and didn't want to just punch a hole that would fray or split out so I picked up a grommet kit.

I marked my spots while the pad was on the rollbar.



Used the punch that came with the kit for a clean hole





Hammered in the grommets and reinstalled the pads







Like most of the other areas that had torx bolts I replaced them with stainless hex head bolts.

Sandstorm95 I know a few people who did what you did your not that crazy d w . I have those same smitty tube steps and I had to drill holes in the bottom because water was pooling up inside them. Had to sand that all off and throw some durabak on them. Pretty much anything that I need to take a beating i coat. Hardtop step ups gas tank skid plate etc. Love this stuff

The main reason is to keep the heat down in the cab. It's miserable hot in Arkansas in the summer and I don't have AC. I figure the liner being water resistant will take care of the risk of rust, which is the main reason I put it down. I want this Jeep to last since I don't plan to sell it like I did my 87, still regret that.

Gonna keep it under plastic until I'm completely done.



Also got the rollbar pads partly on. It's not a perfect fit and will need to be modified. I don't know why but there isn't a bolt hole for the front rollbar section that connects the bar over the driver/front passenger shoulder to the main section of the rollbar. I'm gonna have to punch a hole in it to make it work...unless I'm missing something.



The last thing for today was reinstalling the front carpet, outer shifter boot and reattaching the entry guards.





I initially wasn't going to reattach the entry guards but decided the door areas had so much wear and tear that it would be a good idea. I considered buying new ones but decided to try gluing the old ones back on, they aren't in bad shape, they just didn't have the glue strips.



Masked the area good since the glue tends to drift when you spray it. Also put cardbord in the tub area to protect the carpet; some one who plans ahead probably would have done the glue before putting in the carpet





I coated both the Jeep and the entry guards so the glue stuck well, no clamps needed. If it fails on me I may use small sheet metal screws but right now they seem to be on pretty good.





Next thing is modifying the rollbar pad to fit, installing the front rollbar sections, reinstalling all the seatbelts, instatrunk, console, make some front seat brackes, install front seats,...

Lincoln33 I'm still working on reinstalling the interior. I mentioned earlier in this thread that I needed to replace my inner shifter boot since the original one tore apart when I removed it.



I searched the internet, local Jeep dealership and local four wheel drive shop but couldn't find an OEM or aftermarket replacement. Ebay had a couple originals but they weren't in any better shape than the one I had and I figured they'd tear apart too.

The problem with finding a new inner boot is my Jeep is an automatic and only has the one stick on the floor; the boots on the market are for standards, with two sticks, so they have two holes and are bigger in size. According to the Jeep dealer the part I need is obsolete and no longer available. So I decided to redneck engineer my own...don't flame me too hard.

Here I cut what was left of the center section out.



Here's my replacement material. It's an old motorcycle inner tube I've had laying around.



Did a little cutting to get the fit.







Wiped the cover plate area down just to make sure there wasn't any oil residue, put down some waterproof silicone adhesive and screwed the cover plate down.









Slipped the inner tube over the stick, knob removed first, and then screwed the plate down over it. I ran the stick through the four wheel pattern to make sure it moved okay and called it a day.

I know I probably didn't need to do this, it's gonna get wet or muddy in the tub either way, but there was a boot there when I took it apart and I wanted one there when I put it back together.
