Yes, you use the contacts that are already there, no extra wire. Just cut the power wire in the wheel well and tap into the parking light wire.

Yup, all I did was cut the white wire from the where it connects to the harness for the brake signal and tapped into the running light signal. Took literally 5 minutes to wire it up since I had to dig through the attic for the 3rd brake light and pull the wiring out.

Patrick H I guess I don't get it. I can't think of a better looking, out of the way, rugged license plate mount than the factory one. Although, the engineers must have been all worn out from designing that when they came up with that awful factory 3rd brake light.

Enemy So I thought the led light I had installed was pretty bright and ricerish so I wired up these "Lightnboltz" lights that I bought from eBay.

Enemy Just a random LED light that I found at Autozone for $10.

DNKC what plate light are you running?

I like it though, I'm getting ready to do the LED tails and have been trying to figure out what to do about the plate. Not fond of the $60 & $70 options..

I really like it!

Enemy Thanks Black Magic. It took me longer to pull the wire off the 3rd brake light then it did to wire it up!

This is a great idea. I still have the 3rd brake light, wiring and bracket. A

Anyone know where or how other Jeepers with these relocation kits are routing the power/ground?

Dragonii Nice work.

As for wiring, just tap into the original feed, run the wire to the hinge side of the tailgate and run it through the hole that was used for the factory third brake light.
Run the wire through some split loom conduit. You can use those sticky zip ti mounts on the tailgate and inside of the tub to attach it and just make sure there is enough slack to open the gate... or you could find a tj in a junk yard and get the contact plates like it uses for the brake light.

That probably all sounds like a bunch of mixed up rambling but I promise you it is all clear in my head. If you lived near by I could meet you at Harbor Freight and we could have it all sorted out in about 10 minutes. lol

My DIY license plate bracket

I didn't like it under my LED tail lights and have always wanted it in the spare wheel. Instead of paying anywhere from $50-$100 I made my own out of 1" aluminum. It's my first attempt but I really like it. Just gotta figure out where to route my wire for license plate light.
