MTH Like a FAQ section? Here's one for JKs: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/the...ad-155488.html. There's a similar one in the other tech sections I believe.

The problem with this proposal is that it's a huge endeavor. I'm sure that if somebody actually took the time to write up a great "Basic Jeep Mechanics" thread for each model of jeep along with pics and diagrams, then it would get stickied. That'd be great. But who's going to do all that? There's so much "basic" information--engine, transmission, t-case, differentials, axles, brakes, wheels, tires, suspension, hard/soft tops, doors, electrical and wiring, offroad features, and on and on and on. We're a voluteer crew here.

Honestly, the easiest thing to do is just ask about things you don't understand, and reflect on the answers you get. For example, think you want a lift? Review the "lift review" thread in the section that applies to your jeep, and then post any follow up questions in the applicable tech section. Same for tires and the like--there are stickied threads on the topic, make sure to review them.

Also, don't forget to try to take advantage of the forum's search feature. Plenty of folks have asked plenty of questions over the years.

Finally, you should know that--fundamentally--your jeep is not very different from any of the millions of other vehicles on the road. The fundamentals of how a gasoline engine works, a transmission, solid axles, brakes, etc. is information that is not unique to jeeps. A few years back, I picked up a copy of "Auto Repair for Dummies." Great book that gave me a lot of insight on how my jeep operates.

lolpetewtf You gotta read. No one is going to teach mechanics to you. If you have a question regarding your Jeep, ask in the proper tech forum.

Jame I agree this would be a very worthwhile thing for use newer guys. Or those of us without a lot of automotive knowledge.

I think once before I saw a thread on another forum that had a big section or thread for that .... But of course I can't find it now.

Learn Forum??

This is just a suggestion but could you guys make a forum for people trying to learn about the different parts etc of the jeep. I am new to cars and trying to learn about my new jeep but the people here are using big boy words and i dont know what they mean...nor do i know where or how any of it works.. I feel like it would benefit tons of members if there was a entire forum dedicated to just learning about the engine, the suspension etc. and what they do for the Jeep. Just my .02. let me know what you think!
