|Jerry Bransford||If you can make it up to the Escondido ORW location, that's where I would go. I have learned to trust their store manager Wally over many years to do the right thing if anything ever goes wrong.|

|whitepanda||I know this is an older post but can anyone recommend a good shop (ideally in north county but doesn't need to be) for troubleshooting/ getting rid of the death wobble?|

|krughzn||You might also want to think about having mrblaine work on your rig. He's in Quail Valley. He is the only person who works on my rig and he lives more than an hour from me.|

|Jerry Bransford||Another shop I would avoid in the SD area is MIT in El Cajon. Their quality is highly variable and they don't always know as much about what you're asking about as they claim to know. The owner's wife is a know-it-all who doesn't know jack beyond the basics & tries to field a lot of the initial inquiries in the front office. ORW Escondido/Wally gets my vote too... but if you can drive out to Yucaipa, Stan at JPI will take very good care of you.|

Pro gear (mark) has done my stuff for over 15 years...has good prices and is know in the drag industry, wheeling, off road truck racing and NASCAR groups...he is a really cool guy.
Border parts I've bought from for my old off road race truck does good work and has good prices.
Orw Balboa talk to Jared tell him travis told you to see what he can do...good guy we went wheeling this weekend, he is definently a good connection.
Been buying from orw for 16+ years Howard and the guys have always been fair and taken care of me...
Agreed with "avoid 4 wheel parts" wouldn't go there if I needed too....
Aside of that I do all my own stuff including most of my fab, so I'm not normally one to recommend anyone I prefer my work...but those I listed I trust....
Went to temecula orw a couple years ago and won't go back to that one....I'll keep my business with Balboa first and Escondido second (Wally is good people there)

|brokenujoint||Hey, Im in SD near Qualcomm. If you havent installed your Currie lift yet I can help you and save you a crap load of money. It's not a hard thing to do at all. Just get an alignment when your done. Basic tools and a floor jack is all you need. Even have a garage if you need one.|

Progear in Kerney Mesa is the best place I've found for gears locally. Equally good and in business forever is Border Parts in Spring Valley. Both do good work and are square dealers.
My experience with all the other offroad shops has been mixed at best.
Except for the gears and lockers the rest is all pretty easy to do in the driveway.

One thing I haven't personally seen from another Jeep shop besides "JPI" is free trail side service. I have wheeled with Stan 2 times and both times he was getting his hands dirty helping jeeps get back on the trail. One was a roll over and the other a broken front axle.
You probably won't see any free trail side service as part of your work order, but it does give a little insight on what kind of people you would be dealing with. This is one of the many reasons I would make the drive from S.D.

|Gunner||I drive 180 miles round trip to have Stan "JPi" work on my jeep. No comebacks and always on budget and on time.|

|JPi1||If Yucaipa is in your driving range, we can do all the work you mentioned. We only work on Jeeps, and we get daily deliveries for all parts, tires, wheels, gears and accessories. We get quite a bit of work from the San Diego area.|

|cplwillow||I would stay away from the 4 Wheel Parts in San Marcos. They did my lift for me while I was deployed. The manger told my wife it would be around 600 do install a 4 inch lift, mount balance 5 tires and then align it. She went to pick it up and the guy behind the counter tried to charge her 945. Of course the manager was no where to be found and it took me going down there when I got home and jumping on the desk before they would admit they ripped my wife off.|

|khende||I used MIT to upgrade my axles. The really know what they are doing and their work is guaranteed. Thier prices can be on the highside but still competative.|

|JKRONNIE||ORW! They just installed long arm and gears on my rig. Highly recommend. Go see Jason(El Cajon) , he will hook you up! Stay away from 4wheel parts, they tried to sell me all the crap their company owns rather than sell me whats best for me.|

Besides all the obvious things that makes Currie a great choice, what still amazes me is how quite it is. I have heard some jeeps sound like an old mattress at the hooker hotel.
I did tons of research before I purchased and still have not found any complaints from owners.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm willing to go up to Vista for sure.
How do you like the Currie lift?
|11-09-2012 08:20 PM|
I used this guy to install my Currie lift and SYE and he is much less expensive than the previously mentioned retail shops. I purchased all the items online (Savvy Offroad) and had him install. The nice thing is I could watch while he was doing the work, so I learned a few things. He is located in Vista his e-mail is firstname.lastname@example.org he only works on Jeeps and has been doing so for 10 years. His name is Scott. I would send him an e-mail for prices. He is good guy and does a quality job for less. He also warranties his work for 30 days or 500 miles which ever you prefer.
If you are not set on a local shop check out Jeep Performance Inc.

Stage1 - SYE kit + adjustable rear control arms
Stage2 - Regear + lockers
Stage3 - Replace budget lift with something better (RE or Currie)
I'm most eager to get this SYE kit done since i've already go the 4in lift on there.
