DevilDogDoc 4.88+4lo+1st gear and 33's= no stalling issues here....

Moabrubi I don't have issues stalling.. I just go 4low 1st gear and go. If i do need to work the clutch the 4.0 has enough torque to where I can hold the brake and feather the clutch with no gas even on the steepest inclines. I guess having low gears and 4:1 T-case doesn't hurt.

I've though about the hand throttle but just haven't needed it. With the right skill stick is just as good as auto in the rocks. It works better on the road too

dezertrat84 My auto is fast.you just use the shifter in the dunes, or going up hills.I've dtven stick for ever and ill never go back after owning a auto.

Jwolfer I have a stick and although I do stall while crawling every now and then I definitely prefer it. Like JReed said, it's more of a challenge which is what offroading is all about to me. I'd rather have to work a bit than cruise around on the rocks.

JReed615 I say stick for sure. Automatic would be better for crawling, but stick would be more challenging and probably more fun. Either way you will get used to it, so it comes down to what you prefer.

Havok I have a stick but I also have 3.21's so trail rides and stalling happen from time to time just because I have to keep my RPMS up a bit. but with that being said i wouldnt change it for the world

Water Dog I don't have an issue on stalling my stick on the rocks, but am thinking about installing a manual throttle lever on the shift stick for rocky trails.

02 TJ I've never had a problem with stalling mine on the trail but I've also driven stick in almost every vehicle I've ever owned.

blackdiamond7 i perfer stick on dunes and everything else but i defiantlly agree with with you ^ its tricky but if you know how to drive stick you shouldnt stall it

MillerFam I've had both and prefer the auto offroad. I do more of the rockcrawling, trail cruising kind of stuff. It's frustrating to be in a group with a guy with a stick who keeps stalling and having to restart his engine over and over again on the same obstacle. It's tricky driving a stick on the rocks.

What do you think is better for off road auto or manual tranny?
