I went 20% under nada on trade in for mine, the guy already understood he'd be sitting on it for a while, but he's also handing it off to an affiliate to sell because I'm trading it to a motorcycle dealer for an electric motorcycle.

Keeping the other right hander forever

Resale on RHD rigs is the tough part. I recently purchased a RHD TJ for about 40% below blue book after the seller spent 12 months attempting to sell the vehicle.

Jasontee1 I stopped at the jeep dealer and I am thinking of buying a rhd jeep just to be different they had 2 on the lot they only make them in automatic

jqpix Never thought about the passing part... seems to be an issue.
However, even with a LHD is always smart not to tailgate. I'm pretty sure the Pentastar will be good on passing situations.

Passing on a two lane road in a RHD is bad news... If you're tailgating, and you're in a hurry, and you're doing a "lane check" every 5 seconds, then a RHD might get ugly... you basically have to put yourself in the oncoming lane to see what's there. Never been a problem for me, because I'm never in a hurry, especially if I'm trying to save gas money, but that particular situation is actually a very intelligent concern given the way most folks drive these days.

left turn/right turn... meh. You adjust for that in all of 30 minutes It's actually MUCH more difficult converting back to left handers

cnhmatthews They sell them in the UK. I think you can get them with the CRD also. Diesel hasn't really caught on here, but if you were paying close to $10 a gallon for fuel you'd want one too.

s.champ I have a 2012 RHD with an AEV upgrade. Purchase was make through Postalpete.com over the internet. The local dealer in my area, which buys a certain amount each year, was out of the RHD's. So next best thing was the vehicle I wanted, in the color I wanted was at Postal Pete in Ill. A chrysler/jeep dealership. Love the ride but had to trade in my 2003 TJ RHD. Yes I deliver mail in a rual area. It is like 4 wheeling all day after leaving the office and pavement behind. There are hundreds of RHD Jeeps in my area. Some do perfer better gas milage and drive either small pickups or honda elements and sit in the middle to drive. If a dealer doesn't know what RHD means then they shouldn't be selling cars. And I sure won't buy anything from them.

Blastek Problem with the RHD and manual is the shifter is bent towards the left of the jeep. They must have a different shifter for the UK and AUS markets, though.

In June 2010, PEI announced that it would develop similar legislation to limit the use of RHD vehicles."

Might be legal issues for Canada, no clue on that one.

even the very early DJ-5's were only made in auto... Converting is possible, but I would imagine you'd wind up having part finding issues. I think the clutch pedal assembly usually shares brackets with the brake, and modern hydraulic clutches are a lot more flexible than older cable style ones, so I wouldn't say "impossible", but I'd definitely say "dubious" or "problematic"...

would likely be easier (although possibly more expensive), to buy a manual left hander and convert it to RHD... I'd bet money they use the same chassis, and all the mounts and holes are already there... (a guess based on the priority they seem to have put on using common parts for both models)

Also, if they are all Auto then that won't work for me.
How difficult would it be to make/order one of those in Manual?

2five22 I have yet to see one on a dealer lot, but it would certainly be a novelty. Had I known that anyone could order them, I would have.

I always got a kick out of driving RHD vehicles overseas.

No vehicle requirements that I'm aware of for rural carriers, but the vast majority are not provided any vehicle and have to use a personally owned one. Right handers are obviously better for those guys Actual postal jeeps (the DJ-5) ended their run in 1986, and the originals were AMC and built on Government contract, and parts get harder and harder to come by (they do NOT always match CJ parts... VERY hit and miss), so the return of the right hander was probably due to a slow increase in requests over time from rural carriers.

EDIT- As far as I know, vehicle requirements, mileage payments, etc, are mostly established by local SOP... there could be regional vehicle requirements. Never heard of any though

There were a few Right handed cherokees made in the interim in random years, and some even had dual controls, so they could be driven from either side (fun Jeep trivia )

There are NO criteria for buying a RHD, anyone can order one for whatever reason they want. I was told "no incentives, no options, no transferring items". They wouldn't even trade the stock tires with another model, and given that it would harder to sell than a "normal" JK, I'd say that's reasonable and would expect it to be a common thing for dealers.

Most dealers don't have the slightest idea what an "RHD model" is, and in order to get my '10, I had to explain how they were listed so my dealer could find one The idea that most dealers order it without understanding what it is beforehand is probably a good guess, although the RHD models have been back in production since 2006, so many may have learned "the hard way" over the years.

The vast majority of JK parts are interchangable. The power booster/master cylinder is swapped with the battery/electrical, so parts related to those two systems are a huge majority of what isn't compatible (though not all those parts are incompatible, some transfer no problem). the windsheild wipers are backwards, but use all the same parts. sounds weird, but true... the shifter button (they are ALL auto, even the DJ-5's) is "ambidextrious" also. same parts for either. Your left handed one can be rotated to have the button on the other side No clue what the "windshield jeep" is, but It's likely the same.

Drive thru's aren't as bad as they sound, and for the ones it would be a pain (the drive up ATM, most notably), you can just go through in reverse (with the normal flow of traffic, in reverse gear). Sometimes I go through in reverse for something simple like getting coffee... there's no real need to, as you can reach over for your coffee without too much trouble, but it's just more fun backing in

Parallel parking is so ridiculously easy that I wonder why anyone even owns a left handed vehicle... the advantage of that alone makes everything else almost trivial

MTH Ostensibly mail vehicles, the balance probably sell "just for kicks." I was very, very close recently to buying a 1986 Defender diesel, imported from Wales, with RHD.

Actually there's quite a few listed on Cars.com. About 35 or so in various colors. One is advertised as "have FUN, FUN, FUN in a Jeep." I wonder if anyone can buy one just for the kicks.

Imagine the look on the GM's face if a bunch showed up on a transporter with RHD when a newbee fleet manager thought RHD meant Rotating Helical Differential.

jeepingchester Most of the outskirt routes are subed out by the post office and it used to be they could drive anything any age. Now the vehicle must be no older than 5 years. So jeep will probably see a rise in sales for that rhd wrangler.... It's just what I heard and as usual could be way off track.

David M Yeah, mail carriers. I bet drive-thrus and toll booths are a pain, but parallel parking should be easier.

Notice that the wipers are also bass-ackwards. I wonder if the little windshield Jeep is on the other side?
