BORD A little bit of misinformation in here. The TJ,XJ,ZJ,YJ,and CJ monotubes have always been a silver/grey color. The JK monotubes had one or two very early production runs that were clear coated zink. Now they are silver/grey also. It's the new twin tubes that will be black. The old twin tubes were silver. Also the old twin tubes were gas charged.

Another little bit of info is that all the monotubes are now made by Bilstein. Earlier non JK monotubes were made by Edelbrock. JK monotubes have always been Bilsteins. If you are not sure what you have or what you are buying look for a "B" at the end of the p/n. I.E. RXJ702B vs RXJ702.

Rubicon Express.

Jerry Bransford My RE Monotubes were silverish-gray. They rode great on the street but they were absolutely terrible on rough washboard desert roads. TERRIBLE. I would be following friends on desert roads between trails & they could run off & leave me at will because my Jeep couldn't keep up due to the RE Monotubes. They were all running Rancho R9000s, OME Nitrochargers, etc. I now run OME Nitrochargers & can keep up with anyone without feeling like the TJ was going to go out of control like it did with the RE Monotubes.

I'd pass on them personally. By the way, the Monotubes are gas charged & will expand on their own once you let go after compressing them. RE's cheap Twintube shocks that are stiff as hell are hydraulic so they will stay put at whatever position you move them to. At least that way you can tell if he's trying to pass off the cheap Twintubes as the better Monotubes.
